Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Oh, Triple J compilations-why must they be such a tease?.......2005-01-24

This compilation varies pretty wildly between genius and the exact opposite of genius, because, like previous Triple J compilations, it seems to be trying too hard to please everyone, leading to the risk of pleasing no one! Fear not though, as there is at least one song on this 2CD that us certain to please someone, though who might be hard pressed to find someone able to enjoy all of the songs, since they all vary pretty wildly in terms of their appeal. To me, the best moments included:

Something For Kate: Deja Vu-One of the best Aussie songs on this record, it gets better with age.

John Butler Trio:Zebra-At first I could not see anything in this song, but after endless commercial thrashing it actually grew on me. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's alot of fun.

Radiohead: There, There-Arguably the best song on the compilation, this is classic Radiohead that should please just about every one of the fans who were split between Kid A and OK Computer.

Chemical Brothers: Golden Path-Flaming Lips lead singer with the Chemical Brothers together on one track? Incredibly, it proved to be a match made in music heaven.

The other tracks all vary between very good, mediocre and marginally less than mediocre. Unfortunately, one of this compilation's inclusions was less than mediocre:

Jet: AYGBMG?-Of all the Number Ones in Triple J history, this one is almost certainly the mosy unfortunate. How such a terribly derivative piece of garbage made Number One is attributable only to the brain defects of a massive number of silly-billys.
