I had a friend introduce this album to me a few years ago and liked it then but never really gave it much of chance. Then "Tiny Sparks" was released from his follow up album "Lapalco". I really enjoyed that song and decided to pull this disc back out and give it another go round. Anyways, I'm glad I did because this time I was absolutely hooked. All these songs are just simple straight blasts of pure pop perfection. There's not a dud in the bunch. Some people may complain that the lyrics are a little corny or just stupid and that may be, but with songs as well written as these just kick back and hum along to the wonderful melodies and songs Benson created on this album. Check out his other two cd's as well, "Lapalco" and "The Alternative to Love", they're great as well.

I instantly took a like to this CD when I first listened to it. The music is light and the lyrics are not completely concerned with existential angst. The album might be far from a perfect compedium of music, but therein lies its feckless joy. A nice CD.

reminiscent of early elliott smith, but brendan rocks more. he and his band put on a great live show, check out his web site and go see them! Lapalco, his more recent release is a bit more polished, and is also a nearly perfect product of the indie pop category, but One Mississippi has a certain charm and innocence (but if you listen closely enough to some of the lyrics flowing over these sweet melodies, brendan's sick humor comes through, too!). detroit rocks.

This CD is a waste of money...new or used. Don't get me wrong, Brendan is talented...if you prefer ketchup on hot dogs. The CD reminds me of Britney Spear-Me, N-Sunk, Backroad Kids, Who, Dave Edmonds, Lets Active, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Lolipop Shoppe, the Raiders, Big Star, and all the other POPers from the 60's 70's and today. No lyrical meanings, except "Let's get drunk and listen to this POP ... while we get wasted"! If you want to hear REAL music, buy Journey's Greatest Hits CD. I promise you, they define what REAL MUSIC was AND STILL IS all about!...

What can you say, this album is amazing. I got this CD free as a promo item and bought more for my friends! Now when I say Pop I dont mean [stuff] like Britney Spears, but true Pop like the Beatles, Who, Dave Edmonds, Lets Active, 60's pop garage bands like Strawberry Alarm Clock, Lolipop Shoppe, the Raiders, also check out Big Star, pure power POP! Pop is not a bad word unless you follow the Britney, Backdoor Boys type of [stuff].
If Lester Bangs was still alive he would have a new band to follow!
