Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Viva Post-Punk!.......2004-07-29

One thing I like about Radio Berlin is that they are not from New York. New York somehow gets all the credit for this magnificant scene that is often lazily treated by reviewers and fans as little more than a tribute to a style that has been long extinct.

In my opinion, Post Punk had to happen again, after a decade of lameness in popular music, formulaic bands bored us all to tears. This new Post Punk seems to take a few steps back so as to eradicate where music took a wrong turn and takes us back to the days after Punks Big Bang. To call this scene a New York scene is mistaken. And bands like Radio Berlin prove that point (as do bands like Gramme, The Prids, The Lovemakers, etc.) Does anyone remember that The Rapture started out as a San Franciscan band?

Radio Berlin carry on the true spirit of Post-Punk as it were in the early 1980's. If you like what everyone likes about PiL's 'Death Disco', or the Unknown Pleasure-era Joy Division, or Siouxsie + The Banshees 'Metal Postcard (Mittageisen)' (not to mention early-Bauhaus 'St. Vitus Dance'!)then you should give Radio Berlin a try.

You will be instantly carried away with the drum-bass funk-slap of 'Gauze' and steeped into an album that is full of moody thumps and wiggly-guitar scratches. Radio Berlin join the ranks of Franz Fredinand and Radio 4 to save us all.

4 out of 5 stars Everything old is new again...!.......2004-02-20

The spirit of '80s art-goth-new wave is alive and well in this moody four-piece band... The first track sounds awfully Wire-like; Joy Division, Siouxie and Devo all rear their pointy little heads as well, in plain sight of the rock music reference-o-meter... Fans of the style won't be disappointed by the band's moodiness, sincerity and intensity, or their unabashed embrace of these old-school college rock styles.
