Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars An excellent, though not top notch, Beard album.......2006-12-06

DISCLAIMER: You'll no doubt read multiple reviews on this site and elsewhere slagging this album off as garbage. Don't believe them. Listen for yourself and then decide.

2003's Feel Euphoria was the first album Spock's Beard made in the wake of leader Neal Morse's departure following 2002's superlative Snow. Drummer Nick D'Virgilio took over lead vocal duties and the entire band now contributed to songwriting. The result is an excellent album with a different overall sound than the Neal-era. While it isn't as amazing as the previous albums, it is still an excellent prog rock album.

It opens up with Onomotopoeia, a rockin' blast in your ears. It's followed up by two of my favorite songs on the album, The Bottom Line and the title track, Feel Euphora. The former song is a mellow burner that builds in intensity, while the title track is a wacky keyboard laden progger that's really, REALLY cool and has a killer guitar solo at the end. Shining Star follows, which is pretty, and followed by a great tune, East of Eden, West of Memphis, which, after the first standard 3 minutes, breaks into a really cool jam led off by Ryo Okumoto's melotron before Alan Morse delivers some amazing guitar solos. Ghosts of Autumn is a pretty power-ballad type song leading into the epic on this album, the six part A Guy Named Sid. Now, this epic is not as good as the Neal ones (hey, this was the band's first stab at writing on their own!) but it's still very good. The only jarring transition between sections is between You Don't Know and Judge. Otherwise, it's very enjoyable, although not a classic. The album ends with Carry On.

It's amazing that the Beard were able to regroup and reinvent themselves in only a year in the wake of Neal's sudden departure. While this isn't an album I'd recommend an SB newbie to get, this is a valuable and worthy addiiton to your prog library if you're already a SB fan. Solid effort, guys.

5 out of 5 stars Yay. Someone likes this album........2006-05-21

Ok, I won't lie to you, I liked, "Snow," better then this album, but I really like this album. I gave it a try and found out that even a little change isn't so bad. That guy everyone says left the band, which I personally couldn't tell much of a difference either way without him, will be missed. But, eitherway this cd is worth the money when I get it from either Amazon or e-bay. I like the band in general, so I'll keep listening to them till they either all die or quit.

1 out of 5 stars Spock Really Did Die In Wrath Of Khan.......2005-11-14

Neal Morse leaving Spock's Beard brought some sense of trepidation, but I was willing to give this "Neal-less" version of the Beard a chance. Man, was I mistaken! The fall of a great American prog-rock band could not have been faster! I'm not sure if this new Beard wants to be a lite version of Dream Theater (which could of been a good thing) or a more commercial rock band. And, this free fall happened from one album (V) to the next one. At least Genesis waited for the THIRD albumn of the post-Gabriel era to make the turn to the dark side.

An appeal to Neal -- Spock returned after the Wrath Of Khan, perhaps you can find your way back to your creation and set the ship right.

1 out of 5 stars Goodbye Spock!!!.......2005-08-06

What a waste of time for them and money for me. Die hard Beard fan but Nick cannot cut it with this band. Without Neil they are an empty shell . Buy Snow or something and enjoy the last great thing they did. This is even FAR worse than post-Fish Marillion.
