Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars It was almost guestionable.......2005-05-27

I wasnt sure it was what i expected. Its not really Jam music.
I thought The Discpiles of your's two songs were the highlight
Vocals ang Guitar were unique Almost Zappa esk. Chris Derome
Has one of the Strangest voices ive herd. Looking for more from him. also the David Kalish band broke new ground with apostrophe.
Those three songs gave it 5 stars. The rest, well, we all have an opinion. There will never be another FZ.
But its nice to know he will never be forgotten

1 out of 5 stars I would give it ZERO if I could........2003-10-10

These are some truly horrendous manglings of great music. As with most so-called "Jam" bands, these guys can't jam to save their life. They are painfully unhip, unsoulful, and unfunky. Do yourself a favor and never EVER buy this album. All you jam bands out there, please, stay away from Zappa, and stick to your cliched Dead ripoffs.

4 out of 5 stars A Good Mix of Faithful Recreations.......2003-03-13

If you were to ask me what composer I find most difficult to classify, the answer would have to be Frank Zappa. Spanning a recording career of nearly thirty years and seventy albums (depending on how you count), Zappa's work jumps all over the map of late 20th-century music, never staying in one place long enough to earn its composer any definite label. That's why I'm so impressed by anyone who's able to compile a generally representative compilation spanning his entire body of work. The Jam Band Tribute to Frank Zappa covers most of the man's prolific career, from Absolutely Free to Joe's Garage.

Of the ten tracks represented here, most are relatively faithful recreations. Not a lot of artistic license is employed, which may or may not be what you're looking for in an album of covers. That's not to say there's nothing new and fantastic here. Gringo Floyd's interpretation of Peaches en Regalia as a funky lounge number is a fresh and exciting take of a great piece of music. Richie & The Pocket Rockets' stretch the opening theme of Brown Shoes Don't Make It into a four-minute exploration. And while most of the rest of the tracks donýt break any brilliant new ground, the clean studio recordings of good songs sound great.

Music Album:

  7. Old Dogs New Tricks ~ Randy Hansen
  8. Baby Snakes (1979 Film) ~ Frank Zappa
  9. October Road ~ James Taylor
  10. Partly Plugged ~ Atlanta Rhythm Section
