Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars TYA and Alvin at their best.......2006-04-19

This album came out at the perfect time and every song is great. Alvin's guitar work is right on. The song selection is very good, variety of work. It could be perceived as more commercial than their work in the past, but it is still the TYA style and sound. I recommend this to any TYA fans and those not familiar with the band and wants to listen to good blues rock & roll. It was the only tape I listen too (flip side was Journeyman) for a year, could not get enough. Unfortunate I did not see them live when they promoted this LP but some of the song was performed when I saw them at the House of Blues. Great Album!!!!

2 out of 5 stars Bad reunion album.......2005-07-27

This is a reunion album from 1989. All 4 original band members are here. It is 54 minutes long. The sound quality is good but not excellent. The cover looks cheap but there are liner notes.

Ten Years After last studio album was released in 1974. The group did get together and play concerts many times in the seventies and eighties. But, this is the first studio album in 15 years.

This is one of those embarrassing reunion albums, where the group tries mold their sound to the musical tastes of the time. Here, Ten Years After tries to sound like Van Halen or one of those other corporate rock band of the eighties, like Bon Jovi or Y&T.

Instead of playing blues or blues-influenced rock, Ten Years After tries to play hard rock/pop. Many of the songs are just bad. Worst is that Alvin Lee copies the guitar tricks that were created by Eddie Van Halen and popular at the time.

There are three good tracks, where the band reverts back to their old sound. But, they are not just mere copies of earlier work. Those songs are I Get All Shook Up, Outside My Window and Bad Blood. On Bad Blood, there is an organ line that sounds like it came right out of the eighties, from some group like Yes.

Ten Years After was famous for its very intense live act. They were the hits at Isle of Wight (along with the Who) and Woodstock (along with Santana and Hendrix). They have a number of great live albums that are worth seeking out. Unfortunately, the group has been doing the same live show for decades, with only a few changes to play one or two songs from the latest studio album. But, it is still worth seeing.

Ten Years After has recently reunited, has a studio album out and is touring. BUT, THE NEW BAND DOES NOT INCLUDE ALVIN LEE. That is like Jethro Tull without Ian Anderson or Derek and the Dominos without Eric Clapton.

5 out of 5 stars About time too!.......2004-12-29

This is a fantastic album. I bought it following a live show at the old Hammy Odeon in London after TYA got back together in 1988. It really captures the flexibility of the band moving smoothly from rock and roll to blues through the genius of Alvin Lee's exciting, fluid guitar work. I do not like all of TYA's 60's compositions many of which now sound dated, but this album is instantly recognisable as TYA but is also very modern. My musical taste includes Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Cray, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Rainbow, BB King, Black Sabbath.

5 out of 5 stars FOR TYA FANS ITS UNREAL!!.......2004-01-17
