4 out of 5 stars Dirty straightedge hardcore with a big rock sound.......2006-01-14

This is a little taster of a new side band from a couple guys from straightedge hardcore favs
Champion. Stylistically this doesn't stray too far from Champion's musical turf, fast melodic
hardcore, but a lot of the elements are exaggerated for greater effect and it would be hard to
guess these bands are related just by what you hear here. For one, the guitar tone is absolutely
filthy so it gives the sound a really gritty edge not usually found in this style of hardcore. The gang
vocals are here in force but they upped the ante on those as well. It sounds like there's thirty guys
screaming along so it gives the songs an energetic pass the mic live feel.

The area where they probably branch out the most is on the couple of mid pace cuts. These
songs have a big rock and roll feel to them with rock style lead guitar riffs flowing throughout the
songs. This is definitely not something you hear on Champion records but it's nice to hear them
take it in a different direction rather than rehash what's already been done by their full time band.

Being a hardcore record with only six songs this sucker is pretty short so I'm not sure it's worth
the cash for die-hard hardcore fans but I think the dirty guitars and rock and roll vibe is a welcome
diversion from the usually crisp, tight as a drum attack of most straightedge hardcore bands out
right now.
