Legendarily filthy.......2005-05-08
Those of you who cannot or do not appreciate sexist, misogynist and juvenile humor should stay away from this album. For everyone else, The Mentors are the Beatles of depraved, filthy music - they are unquestionably the best there has ever been in this genre, and the best there ever will be. While The Beatles had "A Day in the Life" as their magnum opus, the Mentors have "Goin' Through Your Purse". Like "A Day in the Life", this song tells a story. It is a cautionary tale about what happens to groupies who are a little too anxious to sleep with the Mentors. Another song by The Mentors is "Woman from Sodom". This song is reminscent of the Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", except that instead of holding a girl's hand, the Mentors want to have butt sex. Finally, the Mentors' analog to the Beatles' "Taxman" is "Peeping Tom". The protagonist of the Mentors song, instead of collecting taxes, looks in the windows of unsuspecting women and then masturbates. Other similarities to the Beatles abound. For example, both El Duce and John Lennon died prematurely. Both the Mentors and the Beatles have made movies. The Beatles made "A Hard Days Night" and "Help!", while the Mentors starred in the Gary Pressman oevre, "The F**k Movie". And while The Beatles were featured on the Ed Sullivan Show, the Mentors were frequent guests on The Wally George Show. You really should buy this album. If the music doesn't inspire you, at least you'll have a few good belly laughs
Long live the legend of El Duce.......2005-01-27
Who was the bigger nut job? GG Allin or El Duce? Its really hard to say. although El was alot more light hearted thatn GG, Where GG Just hated everyone, El Duce seemed to be a bit more socal. But enough of that, the point is that this Album is about as rock and roll as it gets. El Duce was a an old, fat, drunk, sexually perverted, smelly, ugly, punk rocker for those of you who have never heard of him. He played the drums and was the lead singer for the mentors, until his alcoholism caught up with him one day, and the band was forced to hire a new drummer so El could just sing. He died in 1997 from getting hit by a train in a blur of drunkerdness, But its said by few that he was murdered by the infamous Allen Wrench the same guy that Supposedly murdered Kurt Kobain. After El Duce told somone he thought Allen Wrench might have murdered Kurt, He got hit by that train pretty quick, so who knows...
Long live the legend of El Duce.
All Hail El Duce!!.......2004-12-06
Man I loved that guy. I never got to see them live so I am somewhat of a loser, but my God what a talented and unappreciated artist. El Duce is the Salvador Dali of music.
With juvenille lyrics, buzzing guitars and a powerfully crushing drummer, The Mentors had the rock world by the balls, well at least they should have. This album takes you to the beginning of The Mentors legend and if you ain't never heard them, well get out the skateboards and head to that bridge under the freeway. Play this along with S.O.D. and you got a certified Skate Rat Party in the making.
R.I.P. El Duce, we hardly knew ye.
El Duce-- the Man, the Myth, the Legend.......2001-10-25
What can I say that hasn't been said over and over again? El Duce, Sickie Wife-beater and Dr. Heathen Scum made up one of the most legendary rock trios of all time. What failed in musician-ship (though Sickie is a SMOKING guitarist) was more than made up for by the sheer magnitude of sleeze and machismo that will ooze from your speakers every time you put this choice cut of top notch rock on your turn-table. Simply put, if you don't like the Mentors and this album, if you don't strive in everyday life to meet the standards set by this music, if you don't ask yourself at least once every hour, "How can I be more like El Duce?" you are, quite simply, not a man.
Old Mentor's and revised.......2000-05-21
Well back in 1989 The Mentors went into the studios and created this album. When it came out on cassette side 1 was 8 tracks of The Mentors originally recorded back in 1979 and a young El Duce was just starting to get his classic rough voice that many Mentor fans came to love in the years later. Side 2 of the recordings in some ways was The Mentors updating there early Mystic records anti New Wave songs for the new stream of teeny pop glam rock metal bands of the day.
A prime example is from the song Get Up and Die! "Cinderella, Motley Crue and Poison... I wanna see them get run over by a steam roller... YEAH! "
I saw these guys in the last Seattle performance and if never saw them you missed out, but if you think there music was something. There live shows where a blast, especially the wrap up parties.
