Album Description
MASSIVE MELODIC PROG-POWER METAL DEBUT!
Pyramaze remind me of a more progressive and rock influenced version of STRATOVARIOUS meets KAMELOT but there is so much more in here. The diverse musical tastes of the band members come to life fully in these nine songs, sounds of the mighty IRON MAIDEN, and ICED EARTH ring through too. Michael Kammeyer has written a masterpiece.
Lance King's Vocals are the best ever and Morten Gade's (Wuthering Hights) Drumming is outstanding ! This album actually brings something new to the Prog-Power metal realms where things have gotten a bit stale as of late. "Melancholy Beast" is a wonderful display of how good progressive power metal can sound when performed by those who master the genre. Pyramaze is an oustanding Metal unit with a bright future. "Melancholy Beast" is an absolutely highly recommended Prog-Power Metal album, Lance's vocals cut through flesh and bone (as usual) perfectly in line with the piercing guitar riffs / solo's and the great sonic production of this album. Fantastic release, no doubt about it!
Customer Reviews:
No this is how metal prog should be done!.......2007-05-17
If you like Dream Theather and Queensryche, you'll love this cd.
The band is solid and the tunes are great. Production is very good and the cd jacket is also very informative.
At times during the listening of this cd you'd swear Geoff Tate from Queensryche was singing it as the voice is quite similar to Lance King the vocalist for Pyramaze. The guitars, bass and keys are great and the drumming is solid and driving. These guys have it together and this release is a very nice surprise. It just goes to prove that yet again good music can be found, you just have to looking for it.
Buy this cd!
Metal Delight.......2007-05-02
I think i nutted after hearing track 3. I have longed for a metal effort that had some reminisce of 80's metal (not talking hair band B.S.). This album combines the 80's metal effort with a later proggressive sound. Lance Kings vocals and style bring to mind QueensRyche G. Tate. The riffs throught out the album are bone crunching and the solo's are amazing. I not one that cares for keyboards but they are incorprated perfectly within the music. If your a fan of Queensryche, Iron Maiden...ect you won't be disappointed.
pyramaze a nice surprise.......2007-03-09

Solid progressive melodic power-metal..........2007-02-04
'Melancholy Beast' is the first release from this Danish / American band and a pretty solid debut album if I might add. As stated in the title of the review, this band throws in progressive touches from time to time that add depth to their songs. Musicianship is top notch, and their vocalist ( through the first 2 albums, he has since departed ) deserves mentioning here as well, as his great vocals play an intricate role in the sound of Pyramaze. Fans of melodic power metal look no further!
