Customer Reviews:
The most comprehensive Elvis Christmas collection!.......2006-08-22
Elvis recorded and released 20 Christmas songs during his career. All 20 songs are available on this CD in addition to 4 alternate takes, making this the most comprehensive Elvis Christmas collection available. The best of the alternate versions is "I'll Be Home On Christmas Day", which I like better than the original release (it has a more of an R&B feel to it).
The highlights of this collection are the first 8 songs along with the previously mentioned alternate take and the final selection, "Silent Night." Most of those songs were recorded for the original Elvis Christmas album released in 1957, with the title track being recorded and released as a single in 1966. Elvis is in top form for these songs and several of them have become Christmas classics still receiving radio play nearly 50 years after they were recorded!
The rest of the songs were recorded for his 1971 "The Wonderful World of Christmas" album and are not in the same class as the earlier recordings. Elvis' voice seems strained on some of the songs and in general the material is not has strong as his ealier recordings. But still this collection is a must for Elvis and Christmas music fans!
Elvis-If everyday was like christmas.......2004-07-17
Just wondered, is it me or do some of the songs sound like elvis is stoned. Like "I'll be home for christmas". I love anything Elvis and I'm not criticizing. I just want to know if anyone else hears it.
The Elvis XMAS album to own.......2003-12-07
This album contains a combination of Elvis's first and second christmas album plus some unreleased alternate versions. You get to hear both Elvis and his early 50's style signing (when he was more of a rocker) and what his style evolved into in the late 60's (more vocally oriented after his comeback). I am more of a fan of the post comeback Elvis music but I also own and love the first Elvis Christmas Album so this was a great find for me.
a masterpiece.......2002-07-07
I bought this CD before x'mas when I was really depressed with how things were going on in my life. Elvis voice really gave a whole new meaning to these classic xmas songs and really gave me a sense of xmas joy and love. I listen to this CD at any time of year when I feel blue.
All you need to know about Elvis Christmas.......2000-11-22
Combining all of the Radio Recorders takes from the 50's, the lone Christmas song from the 60's ("If Everyday Was Like Christmas) and his early 70's Christmas LP, this is a gotta have for even the casual fan. Everything is neatly summed up in one CD and gives what is actually a fairly decent overview of his career.
All of the 50's takes (and the lone 60's take) are all good, but the early 70's recordings find Elvis much better with a slow tempo song such "If I Get Home on Christmas Day" & "O, Come All Ye Faithful". The sound quality is excellent-the engineers performed quite a feat with this one.
