Los Angeles is teeming with bands looking for their big break. How a band like Thisway managed to grab the brass ring is a true head-scratcher. The group's generic hodgepodge of modern rock sounds crammed into a clumsy package is stupefying. Cliched song titles like "Come Down," "Dry Out," and "Head First" deliver commercial jingle blandness in spades. Maybe, just maybe, there's a listener out there who would enjoy lyrics like, "I had a dream, now it's not what I wanna dream / Not what I wanted to dream / And I had a queen, now she won't be my queen / Not what I thought she would be." Others should avoid at all costs. --Jason Josephes

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars ThisWay is AllRight!.......2004-08-27

I've listened to this disc (and the subsequent follow up) and can't understand what other reviewers are talking about. ThisWay is luminous, melodic, compelling and makes me feel good. With all the crappy noise out there claiming to be 'music', I'm truly glad I found this piece of heaven. Maybe some people don't know a gift when they have it. Anything by ThisWay is a real treasure.

1 out of 5 stars Oh dear lord..........2001-07-27

For starters, I don't own many bad albums. I had one Depeche Mode album I wasn't too keen on, so I gave it to a friend. But this...for obvious reasons, I can't seem to unburden myself of this album. This is just bad music. Every song gives the impression that these guys are trying so desperately to be something that they're not. And they just can't pull it off. I mean, are they supposed to be a rock band? Or some kind of indie band cultist addiction? Or are they just garage boys who took their whining to the studio? I am ashamed to say that this is one CD I got suckered into buying because I liked one song, "Crawl," as played by the WB some years ago. If you like that song, just download it. No need to spring the most useless eighteen bucks you'll ever spend on this aggrevating piece of plastic.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD--Even better live!.......2000-05-28

I had the honor of seeing these down-to-earth guys last year and I've been a fan ever since. Their sound is unique and very addicting. Nice, She Takes, Wanna Be, Crawl, Dry Out and Wide-Eye Shining are my absolute favorites. Most memorable performed live was Wide-Eye Shining. I will never forget the wonderful fresh sound they had and how they expanded my horizon of music preferences. A beautiful CD and a must have!

5 out of 5 stars BEST OF 1999 !.......1999-12-22

If you listen to one new artist/band this year, it should be Thisway. Brandon Wilde is brilliant on his debut CD. I can't really pick a favorite track because they all shine. Put this one in every Christmas stocking you can find !
