Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Sexy song, if nothing else I like out of Julio Iglesiasý son.......2000-07-30

Just kidding. My name is not Oscar the Grouch. And I don't live on Sesame Street, either. I've heard this song a number of times in the past year, such as in Nobody beats the Wiz, where I almost wanted to get higher on account of the seductive Latin influence more than Enrique himself. Never heard his father or his brother sing, though.

However, I've heard Latin-influenced songs on a par with this, such as:

Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca";

Marc Anthony's "I Need To Know";

Madonna's "La Isla Bonita," which stinks because we hate Madonna!

No offense to Enrique's fans, either.

5 out of 5 stars Runs in the family!.......2000-07-19

Music audiences in the mid 90s were treated to their first glimpse of Enrique Iglesias as a shy reluctant sex-symbol, with a gorgeous voice to match. His first album spawned such Spanish hits as `Si tu te vas' and `No llores por mi', and brought him global success (for Latin music fans, it was Enrique and not Ricky or Jennifer who first brought Latino pop to the world stage). 1999's English album was Enrique's first attempt at breaking into the American charts, and this was the single that did it for him.

`Bailamos' (Lets Dance) was featured on Will Smith's `Wild Wild West' Soundtrack, and was originally released in small numbers. But when radio stations and music lovers discovered it, Enrique and his record company released it on a wider basis, even discarding the original video in favor of a more sensual one. This was American audiences' first glimpse of Enrique, and pains were taken to ensure that he emerged as the sexiest, most soulful Latin male around. The song itself, is a clear winner, though no match for Ricky's debut `Livin la vida loca'. Enrique hit No.1 with this song, and thats no surprise. Like his other No.1 `Be with you', this single is instantly catchy and extremely sensual. The singer's husky tone is gripping, and though `Bailamos' is most certainly a dance track its also deeply romantic at heart. Thats expected, as Latin music is all about heart, and its wonderful to hear the brilliant work being done by contemporary Latin artists, especially Enrique. Most people who bought `Bailamos' ended up buying Enrique's full length English album as well. As a first single, this song was one of the strongest of all last year. An exceptional recording, and one thats an essential addition to any pop music lover's collection. I also recommend Enrique's subsequent singles from his English album : `The Rhythm Divine' and `Be with you'.
