Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Well worth what I paid........2006-03-05

This is a disc I bought because of the Soundgarden cover, and because I got it for a penny. Overall I do like this album. I would classify it as general electronica, with touches or trip-hop, and simply pop. Somewhere between the likes of Massive Attack and Poe, maybe. As for the cover "Black Hole Sun", it's decent, and sounds like what you might think it would. In short, I'm sure I'll play this from time to time, or at least enough for it to really "Soak" in. Get it used.

5 out of 5 stars Mimi is THE queen of ethereal cool!!.......2003-03-21

If you don't think "Fire and Roses" and "Clues of You" are two of the coolest songs you've ever heard, listen to them again (and again and again). Comparisons to people like Kate Bush may give you a clue, but they don't tell the whole story. Since Mimi started her "big label" work with Michael Stipe (of REM) and then Moby, her work has grown in depth and quality. I can't wait until her next album comes out!!!

5 out of 5 stars Art Rock Lives!.......2002-11-05

King Crimson meets Kate Bush? No, I wouldn't narrow it down like that. Soak is unclassifiably original and not the least derivative or cliche.

This poetry is intense, intelligent and so female. You can understand every word. How 'bout that? I've loved Mimi's singing all the way since Hugo Largo. She is an incredibly brave and smart singer. I love her theatricality and coolness, her control and how she pushes her limits. Can I cover Fire and Roses? That song got me through a very hard time, allowing me to scream and cry along with her in the car, shaking my head knowingly about it all. This is grown-up music about being present in the moment of confronting truths, about memory, about love, about self.

The music is unusual. Electronic but not about beats or collage for collage's sake. It is beautiful, rhythmically angular and harmonically challenging, like everything she and Hahn Rowe have done. Some songs rock, others trance out. It's all good.

5 out of 5 stars Que musica!.......2001-11-20

I don't even know what to say, this is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review in amazon.com. This CD is soooooooooo cool. It took some time to grow on me, I admit, but every time I listen to it, I hear something new. It's thought provoking and beautiful and different. Definitely cool to just chill out to, a rainy day CD, a rant and rave CD...it's just really good. Yeah! Get it!

5 out of 5 stars Your Future Happiness Depends on Purchasing This CD.......2000-11-18

A wonderful surprise. Emotionally charged, this grabs you from the get-go and won't let you loose. But don't take my word for it: listen to the samples above, esecially "I Spy," my favorite on the album. And yes, that's a cover of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" -- a very haunting cover.

While you're at it, check out Mimi's earlier incarnation as the vocalist for Hugo Largo. Their album "Drum" was re-issued on CD a while ago.
