Customer Reviews:
great introduction.......2005-01-14
what can i say? this is simply the only way to get to know reef. this was my first introduction to them and i cannot thank that man enough. to older fans there are a few new songs with 'give me your love' being the highlight- it brings back Reefs old vibe they had for most of Glow. i absoultely loved this album until i managed to buy their earlier album which, if possible, are even better. The only reason this didnt get 5 stars is because i feel its a good introduction to Reef but not the full story on them. Buy this, learn to love them like the way their music deserves then move on to their even greater stuff like glow, getaway and replenish (unfortunately i cant comment on rides as i have yet to find it). definately worth the money!
Absolutely Incredible.......2004-01-08
Reef is one of my five favorite bands of all time. They've got the most raw, soulful blues-rock sound I've ever heard, and they can go from blazing kick-ass rock and roll like the Give Me Your Love and Place Your Hands to softer beautiful songs like Levels without missing a beat. They're one of the most high-energy and positive and talented and dynamic bands I've ever heard.
This album, in particular, contains two new songs- Give Me Your Love and Talk To Me, both of which are brilliant. I cant listen to them without jumping up on my desk and rocking out. Most of the rest I agree are some of their greatest, but there are a few that I wish I'd seen in there like Solid and Levels and Summer's In Bloom, but they can save those for their next Greatest Hits album, because, by god, they've got enough great songs to do it again.
Greatist?.......2003-04-26
The new songs rock. Give me love is an awesome song, with a catchy loose riff and is a spectacular come back single. Talk to me is brilliant straightforward rock and is very similar to the ac/dc song live wire, since ac/dc was Gary Stringers main influence (lead singer). Lucky number is classic reef similar to the glow era. And just dropped in is a treat. They are all good. BUT where are all the singles they released, some of the best too, Getaway, new bird, superhero, all i want etc. Ok they didn't go top 30, but they are still awesome songs. Also it would have been nice to have a b-sides disc, like on the ash greatist hits. Its a brilliant intro to reef, but not the definitive greatist hits. I hate to say this too because i adore reef, they are the best band in the world, but isn't just quite what I was looking for.
Good...but no cigar.......2003-04-08
I happen to think Reef are one of the most under-rated band of modern times, but I was a little disappointed with this 'Greatest Hits'.
Firstly, the new songs...pretty good. Give me your love is cool, if a little basic, while Lucky number and Talk to me certainly rock.
As for the rest, the biggest disappointment was the songs that are MISSING. Rides and Getaway have been largely ignored giving a rather lop-sided view of their hits. I know those two albums were panned (wrongly!) by the critics, but geeze if you buy the greatest hits you want the whole package right?!
