Album Description
Armed with a tape recorder, Duplex Planet editor & NPR correspondent David Greenberger stepped out to the back porch of Mudurian's nursing home as he spontaneously sang "almost as many songs as Sinatra." The unedited recording of Mudurian's 129-song medley!
Customer Reviews:
wow jack.......2006-11-02
makes a great christmas present for people you don't won't to talk to anymore
La la la la la.......2004-05-07
Jack Mudurian was a 52 year old resident of the Duplex Nursing Home in Boston at the time this was recorded (June 15, 1981). He was "discovered" by David Greenberger at a local talent show. He got up on stage and started to sing a medley of old songs, and wouldn't stop singing until he was dragged off the stage. So, Greenberger had the idea of having Jack sing all the songs he knew into one side of a 90 minute tape. What we have here is the unedited 47 minute tape that resulted. Jack sings 129 songs within the 47 minutes. To be more presise, he sings a few lines from 129 songs (not 129 different songs, some are repeated). He can only remember a few lines from most songs, and sometimes he sings "la la la la" to cover the parts he can't remember. His singing voice is pretty bad, too. If you are into "outsider music", you will probably get a kick out of this.
obsessive-compulsice sings for four hours non-stop.......2004-02-26
compulsive armenian-american Mudurian lives in Boston's duplex Nursing Home. Jack "loves to sing more than anything else" and will burst into high-speed song at the slightest provocation.Challenged to sing for a length of time-most recently by US journalist David Greenberger-he sings until somebody says he may stop. "My repertoire is almost as big as that of Frank Sinatra"' he beams. A good job too, for his obsessive-compulsive medleys last for hours.
His latest album, Downloading the Repertoire, is what can only be called a high speed stream-of-consciousness monologue to music. The 45 minute album crams in a 150-plus track listing, often repeating songs up to three times in a bid to keep on singing. Trouper!
