Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars RAWEST and FINEST Surf Comp! Nab it before it fades!.......2002-04-09

Remember the scores of surf music compilations that hit the CD stores shortly after "Pulp Fiction" hit the theaters? There were a few really solid comps, but so many of them had the awesome but obligatory "Misirlou" cut mixed with a bunch of watered down surf instrumentals.

"Bustin' Surfboards" is not just one of the solid exceptions, but one of the rawest and most intense collections of surf tunes you will find anywhere.

Now, while I enjoy old Beach Boys tunes, they are hardly what comes to mind when I think of surf music. Yet this CD opens up with a simple but rhythmic Beach Boys instrumental that has the Beachy feel that those Boys so often lack.

Gathering this collection was the work Jim Pewter and Neil Norman, who have compiled several other surf music compilations (including some good Dick Dale). All their compilations are good, but this collection hits the bullseye! All these tunes sound like they came from the Paradise of Garage Bands, all tunes with that exotic and sensual surf guitar edge to it.

The song that really grabbed me the most is "The Curl Rider" by The Surf Raiders, a swift song with each guitar strum giving that 60s Sci-Fi TV twang to it. Everbody from Ritchie Valens to Bobby Fuller to Dick Dale blasts this album with the essence of surf instrumentals.

"Bustin' Surfboards" isn't exactly hot of the presses. It's hung around the on & offline record shops for quite some time. It is a must for collectors of surf music; buy it before it disappears altogether!

4 out of 5 stars Great summer music.......2001-10-13

While listening to this CD, I couldn't help but think about summer and looking back to the sixties when most of the music was written. Dick Dale rules!!

4 out of 5 stars Hang five !,BUT...........2000-12-19

The tunes that you have are cool and different.,and this makes a great edition to your surf library. But caution.........there is two soundtrack clips, one is by the late Bobby Fuller "our favorite martian" (instrumental),and our man flint!(instrumental)by the challengers.,there all righ....But they don't have a surf theme.!

But" moon dawg" the gamblers, and "outerlimits" the marketts can make up for songs that should be on here.,and at least all the tunes are by the original performers.

and an interesting tune by Ritchie Valens called "Fast Freight" wich is a insrumental but it sounds unfinished!

and the"Perfect Wave" by Niel Norman and "The lonely Surfer" by Jack Nitche close the cd .
