The Small Faces Are the Greatest Mod Band that Ever Was. Blue Eye Soul Boys, Psychedelic Crusaders and Even Heavy Rock Originators their Music Has Been a Huge Influence on Everyone from Led Zeppelin to the Jam to Blur to the Libertines. Having Started Out as a Tearaway East End Mod R&B Band that Got Barred from Almost Evry Venue They Played They Swiftly Developed Into an Assured Unit that Produced Some of the 60s Greatest Records, Particularly When They Discovred Creative Freedom at Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate Label.

Nice packaging, but not the best sound.......2006-07-06

This is a collection of the three Immediate Small Faces albums (the second phase of their career) in a small box set. The packaging is nice and fairly authentic to the original LP versions. "Ogden's" replicates the round, multi-fold cover of the original LP. Unfortunately Castle didn't use (or possibly didn't have access to) the best masters of some of these tracks, especially on "Autumn Stone". That album was a compilation put together by the label so production quality from song to song has always been varied, but better sounding versions of these tracks are now available. Some of the more recent Small Faces collections ("Darlings" for example) have better sound. Still, if you are a Small Faces fan this is nice set to have and relatively inexpensive for a 3 disc set with packaging this nice.
On the other hand, if your only knowledge of the Small Faces is "Itchycoo Park" I would suggest you try one of the compilations instead. The Small Faces were one of the greatest bands of the British invasion. They were every bit as good as the Who or the Kinks during the same period. Too bad American audiences didn't give them the same attention those artists received.
If the sound on this set was as good as the packaging it would be a solid 5 stars.
