Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect 1-CD Overview!.......2005-09-03

Normally, I am not a fan of most compilation CDs, since I usually am a fan of albums, and not just singles. However, this new addition to the Casey Kasem American Top 10 collection is a must-have for newcomers to the 70s Rock era!

This album is the divider line between the other two 70s compilations from CK, being the Singers/Songwriters collection, and the "Classic Rock" collection. It features songs that made the 70s memorable, but they come from mostly renound artists that have a long career history. Many of the featured artists are dead, some of them do not exist anymore, but just as many artists are in fact still existing and making music today! This compilation disc not only introduces listeners to what made seventies music most memorable, but it also introduces the listener to songs that made the particular artists popular.

Unlike the other two more specific compilation sets from Casey Kasem, this set is an overview of many different genres and styles of 70s Rock music. The bands and performers included in this set were extraordinarily influencial for music to come in later decades, and it will certainly not ever be forgotten. Janis Joplin, for example, (whose "Me and Bobby McGee" is featured) set the bar high for female rock singers, being one of the first of her kind. The Steve Miller Band (whose "Joker" is featured) was a group of extremely tallented musicians who were some of the most popular rock artists of the time, known for their catchy lyrics and dance-able tunes. Peter Frampton (whose "I'm in You" is featured) is known for not only being a fantastic guitar play, but also for creating what could possibly be the best and most successful live album ("Frampton Comes Alive!") of all time. Styx (whose "Lady" is featured) was one of the toughest power-pop groups to ever exist, with a steady fan base, large fan base even after album after album got slammed by the critics nationwide. Boston (whose "Don't Look Back" is featured) holds the world record for the best-selling debut album of all time, most likely because every song on the album was a Top-10 Radio Hit some time after its release.

It is easy to see that there are a lot of gems on this 1-CD compilation disc. I could go on and explain why every selection is the perfect choice for the listener, but I feel that one should instead go out and buy this, so that they can decide for themselves. Every song featured is a timeless classic, worthy of any music fan's hearing. Every song featured also offers the perfect introduction to an era ruled by electric guitars, spandex, and some of the most evolutionary music of all time. I highly recommend the purchase of this compilation disc.

Enjoy the music!
