This ep just seemed like such a disappointment to me. Two great bands. One small cd. One standout track (the ridiculous, slit-your-wrists mixtape ender "Believe"). There were too few rough edges, and it seemed like the strengths of both groups sort of neutralized each other, producing something that is merely pleasant.

This CD is like two EPs stuck together, one good one bad. The first half of the CD is entertaining, but I never listen past that anymore. The second half isn't that good.

First of all, this CD is to be listened to with a nice pair of headphones. Get them, put them on, close your eyes, let the music get inside you and then you will hear / experience / love all of its tiny sounds, the lushy guitars and voices making a simple, while mesmerizing, musical landscape(s). That's the point, you'll experience a nice voyage. And believe me, after you listen to this CD you will, like I did, ask yourself why you haven't heard this before. So, check this out. Enjoy.

I like this album more than anything else Macha or Bedhead has done. The first four tracks are excellent and sort of remind me of Yo La Tengo's latest album, (And Then Nothing Turns Itself Inside Out or something) The ambient tracks set a great mood. You'll laugh and cry at the last track which is cover of Cher's Believe complete with syllable-for-syllable vocorder matching. All in all one of the best droning shoe-gaze albums of which I am aware.

this EP is worthwhile solely for tracks 2 through 4, which are some of the best pieces of songwriting i heard all of last year...the patient guitar squall intro to "never underdose" unfolds into a haze of feedback, oddball noises, and smeared, spiritualized-esque vox that gallops along for several minutes, displaying a clear-headed confidence and power that neither band has been able to attain on their own...

macha's clamorous experimentation is more grating than anything else, and the late bedhead failed to transcend their own slo-core sadsack rulebook, which hampered the occasional bursts of beauty on their albums and rendered the rest of their songs mumbly bummers (see arab strap for endless creativity within a distinctive, slow and "mumbly" style)

but somehow, with the mix of macha's eccentric instrumentation and bedhead's languid arrangements, the resulting sound rings very fresh, easily qualifying as more than just a curio...it was one of the finest rock releases of 2000...

after the dark, yet soaring and wonderful "hey goodbye", we hear the star of this EP, "only the bodies survive"...with it's lovely ringing xylophone, humming bass rhythm, and tender lyrics, sung in a perfectly restrained murmur (bedhead's murmurs were self-conscious and unaffecting), and lengthy droning coda, the song is what a song should be in these pomo days of blippy posturing and backward-looking blandness: fresh, affecting (with more than one emotion), melodious, etc...and it happens to be downright pretty as well...

you could much worse than to buy this, off the almost always reliable (aside from macha!) jetset label...the umpteen filler tracks separating the "real" songs from the cover of cher's "believe" are forgettable (meant to be?) and the cover itself can't get away from the fact that cher's song (although i'm certain she didn't write it in the first place) was so overexposed and facile that any reference to it is annoying, even one as clever as this cover, with it's touch-tone phone melody gimmick...
