Macha? Well, they're like Arabian Nights with must-move grooves, or perhaps Cornershop with less of a Beatles jones. Or, maybe not. "Until Your Temples Are Pounding," one of the disc's most intoxicating cuts, seems to cop from both Irish and Indian textures before revving up with heavy metal hugeness. This isn't typical public radio world music, but a refreshing burst of East vs. West engaged in a groovy handshake competition. There's plenty of indigenous instrumentation rubbing up against the usual guitar bass and drums culprits, but it never strays into the wide open fields of overindulgence; Macha tightens the leash on the festivities, reigning in 37 minutes of perfectly digestible fun. Like the psychedelic works of their close pals and fellow Georgians Olivia Tremor Control, every bubble of noise on See It Another Way is carefully planned and cunningly executed. --Jason Josephes

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars i need to buy this soon.......2000-03-10

i'm sitting here in athens listening to OZRIC TENTACLES and reading reviews of MACHA. i saw them live last year and it was pretty good, i heard the new MACHA cd in a record store(schoolkids) in CHAPEL HILL, N.C. i like what little i heard. i like trace-like music, i also like GODIVA, ummm, that's not a band it's CHOCOLATE! yummy, chocolate and trance, i'm hungry!

4 out of 5 stars Blissed out!.......2000-01-22

I first heard these guys play at CMJ this past year and I was BLOWN AWAY and I instantly bought both Macha, and See it another way. Tho, I would have to say that their first is definitely the stronger of the two, See It... is far from a disappointment. It demonstrates what Macha does best which is use these varying eastern instruments in such a way that they create amazing rock songs. Too many of these "eastern influenced" bands do a poor job of creating continuity in their music and they leave you confused and with a headache... Macha just leaves you in a state of bliss with an overwhelming urge to press "repeat all."

1 out of 5 stars Pylon for the Nineties........1999-09-06

In the Eighties everyone had a copy of Pylon's "Chomp" in their record collection. No one liked the band. No one listened to the album. When asked why they had the record, you'd get a blank look, some head scratching, and a feeble explanation along the lines "someone told me it was really good." In the Nineties we have Macha.

5 out of 5 stars The closest thing to ear candy you will ever find!.......1999-08-25

I have seen Macha play live numerous times at the 40 Watt in Athens, and I have heard their first album. This is by far their best work yet. Nipplegong is an awesome song, and this album will relax even the most uptight people.
