Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Affirmatively Speaking.......2001-08-09

Most long-time Yes fans thrive on going deep into the band's repertoire. Which is why long-time Yes fans are usually unimpressed with the available compliations. The avant garde nature of the tracks on this release should satisfy long-time Yes fans, for the most part. However better choices could have been made in a few instances. For example, the single edit of America is a farce. The full length version would have been preferable over Heart of the Sunrise or And You and I. Those songs appear in quantity on compliations elsewhere. Owner of a Lonely Heart and Love Will Find A Way are significant exceptions to the very progressive nature of the other tracks. Hold On or City of Love from 90125 and Shoot High Aim Low or Almost Like Love from Big Generator from the Eighties Yes would have been more suitable for this cool compliation. This rocking release doesn't measure up to five stars because of that. Overall though, it does earn four stars.

This release was aimed at long-time Yes fans, for the most part. Long-time Yes fans thrive on going deep into the band's repertoire. Which is why most long-time Yes fans are unimpressed with the available compliation releases. This release will satisfy the avant garde needs of most long-time Yes fans up to a point. It's at that point where this release does not measure up to a five star rating. First, the single edit of America is a farce. It would have been preferable to include the full length version and drop Heart of the Sunrise or And You And I. Those two songs show up in quantity on other compliations. Owner of a Lonely Heart and Love Will Find A Way are two major exceptions to the avant garde nature of this release. Hold On or City of Love from 90125 and Shoot High Aim Low or Almost Like Love from Big Generator would have been more appropriate choices from the Eighties Yes for this particular compliation. Overall, Best of Yes earns 4 rocking stars for the long-time Yes fans.
