Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Don't WASTE Your Money.............2005-01-28

This is a shame ....Steve Hillage is a very talented guitarist. The problem here is, that this CD is filled with spacey, non melodic songs that seem to be endless with no semblence of "sense". I would NOT recommend this CD to anyone interested in songs with structure and melody.

4 out of 5 stars Steve Hillage - 'BBC Radio One Live' (Griffin).......2004-07-17

Steve Hillage was,of course the guitarist for Gong,1973-75.This CD was the first disc of his I've ever heard. The fabulous sounding "Hurdy Gurdy Glissando" and "The Salmon Song" were taken from a 1976 solo outing. All other cuts are from a 1979 gig, like "Electric Gypsies","Activation Meditation" and the state-of-the-art "The Glorious OM Riff".A nice Gong-related item to add to your listening stack.I'd LOVE to see Hillage reunite with Gong sometime.

5 out of 5 stars Even better than Live Herald.......2002-06-01

This comes from two radio concert broadcasts from France. Two songs are from 1976 and the rest is from 1979. It is just over 70 minutes long. The sound quality is excellent. What is great about the 1976 material is that there is no audience noise. On the 1979 tracks, the audience noise is kept to a minimum.

The performance here is fantastic. It is lively, energetic and spacy. While this is space music, it still rocks and rocks hard. I like this one even better than Live Herald, because it never lets up (Live Herald slows down in middle when he starts playing some of his ambient tracks).

Hillage is one of the best space guitarists. He has a wild and unique style of playing. He can be way out there and accesible at the same time. His voice perfectly matches his style of music.

Hillage was in a number of small groups, before joing Gong. He was on four or five Gong albums and stuck with the group for Shamal, when it became a jazz-fusion group. He then went solo, doing mostly space music, but also putting out some ambient albums. He quit playing, but came back again, when electronica became popular, and his old ambient music was being played in bars. He has formed a group called System 7 which plays ambient/electonica.
