Customer Reviews:
Genius.......2003-10-18
I am from the UK and was only recently forunate enough to come accoss the wonderfulness of the Austrailian band You Am I when i saw them live supporting The Vines. I got totally addicted after that.
I have heard all of their albums and if i was to choose a favourite and include this one (since it is the singers solo album) THIS would be my favourite from their material. Every song is addictive and genius. Tim is a god, You Am I are the best band on the planet!
When i first heard it; i was shocked by it. I think the style is different, but if you like You Am I, or have any sense at all, you will get this album! I did not form my high opinion of the album when i first heard it, but when i heard it again i fell in love with it. Especially "Twenty Eight," "Hi, We're the Support Band," "Up-a-Ways," "You just don't do it for me friend"...oh i give up they are all masterpieces.
Those of you who have no idea who i am going on about..be ashamed of yourself.....and then buy You Am I cd's, you won't regret it; I didn't.
You Am I's front man unplugged and amazing.......2001-08-28
Quite simply, it is a great album with no real weak cuts on it. I wish I could give an American equivalent to his work. How about an acoustic Beck with a touch of mellow Pete Townshend/Steve Earle with a modern Australian sensbility? That's about as close as I can get, and trust me, it doesn't do him justice. BTW, if you haven't heard You Am I, look for some of their stuff on Amazon. Both Hourly Daily and the #4 Album are good pick ups, though it would be nice if they sold their live album, Saturday Night Round Ten. Buy this CD. You will not be disappointed.
a beautiful progression.......1999-09-17
for his first solo album, Tim Rogers has completely blown me away. His songwriting is unbelievable, especially on 'you've been so good to me so far'.Tim has no pretension, and shows this through his songwriting, which is honest and doesn't try to sugarcoat. His tales of imperfect yet fulfilling love is inspiring, and gives hope(!), especially track three, 'I left my heart all over the place'. Beautiful.
Wonderful........1999-09-06
If you're looking here, you're either Australian or you're one of the few Yanks wise and fortunate enough to have latched onto the wonderous You Am I, one of the best damn ROCK bands on the planet. For his solo debut, YAI frontman Tim Rogers creates a quieter, more rustic, vibe than the one he pursues on his day job, but his words ring true as ever. While Rogers would like to paint himself as more of a mindless rock-guy, his sensitivity, depth, and perception of life and living always give him away. Musically, What Rhymes With...has the feel of a man totally at home...loose and breezy, strumming his guitar, singing his heart out, telling all the stories that come to mind. And what a wonderful, engrossing, storyteller Rogers is... A necessary addition to any serious U.S. You Am I collection. Thank you, Tim Rogers...you made my year.
