Album Description

Which current Progressive rock band has not had the honour to see one of its works reviewed by the famous John "BO BO" BOLLENBERG ? This Belgian journalist has indeed prevailed for several years in many well-known international magazines, becoming an essential character in this field. It was bound to happen: the man has finally decided to cross the line ! THE BOLLENBERG EXPERIENCE is indeed a new formation, reuniting the best international musicians in the genre around the singer and lyricist… John "BO BO" BOLLENBERG !!! He collaborates for this project with a dear friend: Rick WAKEMAN, the legendary keyboards player now back with YES. The other guests include Roine STOLT (THE FLOWER KINGS, TRANSATLANTIC, KAIPA…), Jordan RUDESS (DREAM THEATER), Björn JOHANSSON, Pär LINDH, William KOPECKY, Jordan RUDESS (DREAM THEATER), William KOPECKY (KOPECKY), Brian JOSH & Heather FINDLAY (Both of MOSTLY AUTUMN), many of the members of SINKADUS, etc. "If Only Stones Could Speak"! (2002) is a splendid opus dedicated to the city of Brugge. Fall for the evocative power of this unique masterpiece, in a musical journey through myths and legends of medieval "Northern Venice"…

1 out of 5 stars If Only Bollenberg Could Sing..........2007-04-29

this would be a really enjoyable album. The music is a refreshing blend of folk and progressive elements combining traditional instruments such as harpsichord, mandolin, violin, etc. with modern instruments such as electric guitar, electric bass, drums, moog, mellotron, etc. played by well-known musicians such as Par Lindh, Rick Wakeman, Bjorn Johannson, Roine Stolt and others. Unfortunately, John Bollenberg's singing is so badly off-key and cringe-inducing that it renders the entire project unlistenable. Bollenberg also adds this hokey, fake, over-emotionalism to his voice that just reeks of amatuerism. This singing is the aural equivalent of fingernails scratching on a blackboard. In fact, it just may be THE worst singing in the history of recorded music. It is so bad that you would almost think it was a joke or a put-on or a parody of some kind. On the other hand, when the beautiful voice of Heather Findlay occasionally chimes in, it is like the difference between night and day, between vinegar and honey, between the stench of rotten potatoes and the dizzying perfume of roses. Suggestions to Bollenberg: Don't give up your day job; remove the vocal tracks entirely and re-release this album as an instrumental album as the music is so good it can stand on its own; or remove all the Bollenberg vocal tracks and let Heather Findlay do ALL the vocals. I can just imagine how beautiful this album could sound with Heather Findlay doing all the singing. That could instantly change this embarrasing release from 0 to 1 stars to 4 to 5 stars.

1 out of 5 stars What a terrible voice!!!.......2006-12-07

At first I thought this was a joke....the voice of this guy is terrible, disgusting, annoying...the whole production is just a waste of time and money. It's a shame that reknown musicians like Rudess or Wakeman join this mess...worst cd in my prog collection. This is a poor version of any Wakeman album.

1 out of 5 stars Poor music!.......2005-04-30

I love progressive music but this is not a good example. Of course Mr. Bollenberg has good friends - Rick Wakeman, Jordan Rudes, etc but definitely it is not enough. The music here is terrible!!!
