interesting interpretations.......2004-02-21
I was expecting that this would be an album of fairly straightforward covers, offering slightly unique versions of songs that I love. However, for the most part, the tracks on this album are very different from the original recordings. At first, as I mentioned, I found this to be upsetting and annoying. After some reconsideration, I've decided that I do indeed like some of the covers, and that other people with more imaginative views on music might like the album. My favorite songs here are "alec eiffel" by drumkan and "levitate me" by seafood.
The bottom line on this album is this: if you want a traditional tribute album, buy "Where Is My Mind," which is excellent in this respect and very enjoyable; if you are not a huge Pixies fans and are unfamiliar with some of the originals, I would avoid this album; and if you are a diehard fan, but are expecting songs that sound even remotely like the classic versions, I would also steer clear of this disc. If you are up to the challenge, want a different take on the greats, or like agressively creative interpretations, buy this album and prove me wrong.
A new tribute indeed.......2002-07-18
You won't find traditional Pixies covers here, but some much more original ones. Feed's Debaser, Giganic, and Alec Eiffel are particularly fun, and would even make Mrs. Murphy proud.

Don't expect to hear traditional Pixies covers here though, but more original-style covers. Feed's Debaser and Gigantic are especially fun and new.
Also, I like this CD more than the mediocre "Where is my mind?" one.
