Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars interesting interpretations.......2004-02-21

I have been a pixies fan for nearly 15 years and with news of their reuniting to at least play some concerts together again I decided to buy this album. My first feelings upon listening to it were of disappointment, but I have reconsidered somewhat.

I was expecting that this would be an album of fairly straightforward covers, offering slightly unique versions of songs that I love. However, for the most part, the tracks on this album are very different from the original recordings. At first, as I mentioned, I found this to be upsetting and annoying. After some reconsideration, I've decided that I do indeed like some of the covers, and that other people with more imaginative views on music might like the album. My favorite songs here are "alec eiffel" by drumkan and "levitate me" by seafood.

The bottom line on this album is this: if you want a traditional tribute album, buy "Where Is My Mind," which is excellent in this respect and very enjoyable; if you are not a huge Pixies fans and are unfamiliar with some of the originals, I would avoid this album; and if you are a diehard fan, but are expecting songs that sound even remotely like the classic versions, I would also steer clear of this disc. If you are up to the challenge, want a different take on the greats, or like agressively creative interpretations, buy this album and prove me wrong.

4 out of 5 stars A new tribute indeed.......2002-07-18

Ok, so first, I'm a huge Pixies fan (and Breeders, Frank Black, etc.). Second, Buffalo Daughter is one of my favorite bands in the last 4 years or so. That said, this CD rocks.

You won't find traditional Pixies covers here, but some much more original ones. Feed's Debaser, Giganic, and Alec Eiffel are particularly fun, and would even make Mrs. Murphy proud.

Ok, so first, I'm a huge Pixies (including Breeders, Frank Black) fan. Second, Buffalo Daughter is one of my favorite bands from the last 4 years or so. That said, this CD rocks.

Don't expect to hear traditional Pixies covers here though, but more original-style covers. Feed's Debaser and Gigantic are especially fun and new.

Also, I like this CD more than the mediocre "Where is my mind?" one.

2 out of 5 stars Hmm..........2002-07-15

Waste of $$. They really tried, but in my opinion, nothing much really came out of it... After the 2nd or 3rd tune, I thought I was listening to really heavy/surf-punk metal... really BAD heavy/surf-punk metal!! Couple songs were okay. 'nough said.

4 out of 5 stars Pleasant Surprise..........2002-01-03

I bought this album by mistake, thinking I was getting the 'Where is My Mind' tribute. The first time I listened to it I didn't even realize (almost) all of the bands were Japanese until I reached track 8, a completely unintelligible and unrecognizable version of Dead by radio active that sent me diving for the CD jacket.
