4 out of 5 stars Mountain Extended Versions.......2005-05-03

I have to agree with Magnus and his review. Having seen so many bands from the middle 60's through the 90's there really is no such thing as a bad live concert, like beer, some are just better than others. Although this set sounds like a boot-leg it is a jam up session of hard, rampant Mountain. There were people for 20 years that listened to the boot legged Dead and loved it and never complained. I saw Mountain at least 4 times during those years and although they never played anything the same way, it was their impromptu perfomances that left the greatest impact. Beantown Billy

4 out of 5 stars I disagree with most reviewers here.... .......2005-02-02

I love MOUNTAIN. I purchased this disc primarily for the low cost and the fact that it offers different versions of well know prior studio recordings.
The disc I have is NOT the re-mastered King Biscut Flour Hour- Mountain Live (which has the same tracks plus a bonus interview). It's the budget BMG pressing so I wasn't expecting gang busters for starters.
I enjoy this disk.Though the sound is somewhat thin it does have other qualities which don't detract. The version of 'Nantucket Sleighride' included here is just right at 10+ minutes, longer than the studio 5+min included on the original 1971 album...but not as excessive as the 30+ frm 'Twin Peaks'.
An interesting little ditty here is a 2+ min track called 'Jingle Bells'(not the holiday song really)is a tough instrumental workout better called 'Jingle Balls'.
For the most part all the versions here are longer than the originals, with more instrumental flourishes interjected within.
So, unlike my fellow reviewers here,I think this is worth owning.Minus 1 star for absolutely no liner notes whatsoever, just track listing and times.

BTW, this recording is from the SAME event as on 'MOUNTAIN-GREATEST HITS- LIVE'....recorded 11-3-74 at the Capital Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey. Look into the reviews on the above mentioned cd for a more balanced (ie favorable) opinion.
Total cd time= 54: min

3 out of 5 stars good music, bad production.......2004-03-29

This is a bootleg called extended versions. It's by an old, infamous british rock band called mountain.

The guitar playing and everything else is good. This cd really sounds like a bootleg, but I think here's just too much jamming, and playing-whatever. And also, the package sucks. No details at all. I would like to know, when this was recorded. Anyway, it's still worth three stars, because the music itself is not bad, but the production sucks. This is something good for classic rock fans.

2 out of 5 stars Nothing Special.......2002-12-13

I concur with the previous reviewer; this disc definitely does not show the band at their best. Leslie, Felix, and Corky are all here, but they sound terribly rusty, and both Leslie and Felix flub lyrics to songs they had been singing for years. David Perry is also here, but (a la Steve Knight) makes no discernible contribution. In addition to the lackluster performance, the sound is little better than bootleg quality, and the clumsy editing only makes things worse. It's not as lousy as "Twin Peaks", but it comes close. This one is for completists only.

2 out of 5 stars Great Price, Sloppy Performances.......2002-04-06

The packaging provides no clues as to when and where this set was recorded, but this is the "Avalanche" lineup; Corky Laing is back, and Steve Knight, Bob Mann, and Alan Schwartzberg are all gone (but not really missed). At one point, Felix Pappalardi introduces David Perry as the "newest permanent member of Mountain." However, Perry adds no more to the mix than did Knight or Mann, substituting his lackluster rhythm guitar for Knight's inconsequential keyboard work and Mann's equally forgettable guitar/keyboard efforts. The performances are substandard, with the entire band sounding as if they were too drunk or tired to really care, and this air of half-heartedness permeates the entire set. Felix screws up some of the lyrics to "Theme From An Imaginary Western," and Leslie has a bit of difficulty with "Mississippi Queen."
