Good enough!.......2006-09-23

Yes, I was hesitant to buy this because let's face it, most tribute albums are simply just disposable! BUT I honestly believe Cleopatra records did a great job compiling this tribute album to the one artist we'd last expect them to do so! I mean they were able to get all these underground bands/artists to cover songs from one of the big time female pop artists of our time! According to the cd booklet, the artists themselves requested to be put on the tribute album. Cleoparta eventually had to make a volume 2!
Now I'll be honest and say that some of the remakes are simply MEH but most are actually pretty good! Ofra Haza's rendition of open your heart is a cool one keeping it faithful to the original version but making it her own still. Then we get a cool dark industrial version of the song Erotica and it makes you wonder if Madonna would've been some NIN-type of artist how the song could've been done originally since it already had a dark vibe to it. Songs that don't really work with the whole darkwave vibe are Boderline, material girl, and even cherish. I don't know but in my opinion they don't fit well with what the artists in the cds are trying to do with them by making them more grotesque.

All in all it's a great compilation and if you're one of those like me who enjoys darkwave music and appreciate Madonna particularly her more dark introspective work then this is for you!
