Album Description

Bitch and Animal is a fresh, funky, animated duo of multi-instrumentalists, the kind you probably won't hear on the radio or see on MTV. They react to their surroundings by writing and performing sexually-energized songs that move butts and bust guts, using piles of instruments to explore piles of different musical styles. To record their new album, Sour Juice And Rhyme, Bitch and Animal locked themselves up in a house in the country, connected with nature and played croquet until their arms were sore. <P>With the help of co-producer June Millington (best known as the leader of the '70s rock band Fanny), Bitch and Animal effectively channeled the energetic vibes and hilarious antics of their live shows, giving Sour Juice And Rhyme more of a carefree spirit than their previous album, 2001's Eternally Hard. Bouts of comic storytelling rub shoulders with somber balladry, percussive spoken word, Carter-family country and rap. It's a sea of genres, moods and messages, expertly mixed together by two geeks living on a farm, letting it all hang out.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Not their best but.......2006-02-27

Ahhh...much love for the (lamentably not currently together) duo of Bitch and Animal. I much preferred their two previous releases-Eternally Hard and What's That Smell. However, there are still some worthy tracks on this release. "Pac Man" is a sweet unique lovesong, "1/2 Naked" and "Feminist Housewives" are both hilarious and "Secret Candy" is a brilliantly comedic feminist response to misogyny in rap lyrics. The rest of the songs were too self-consciously artsy for my taste. These are, however, two women with an articulate perspective and beautiful voices so I don't mean to discourage anyone from delving into their catalogue; an album that is not up to their usual standard is still quite good. If they ever tour together again, definitely make a point to go see them as they are at their best live.

5 out of 5 stars It takes a lot for me to rate something as perfect..........2005-01-09

I've been obsessed with this CD since I purchased it about six months ago. It's one of the few CDs I can actually listen to from beginning to end and love every song. The lyrics are genuine, the songs are simple yet entertaining...their main instruments seem to be just a violin and some bongos, yet they've created something so unique with such few resources. Obviously their music is directed toward a certain group, but I urge all music lovers to give this a chance.

5 out of 5 stars sour juice and rhyme.......2004-05-04

it's an amazing album, i promise

4 out of 5 stars Totally Disagree!.......2004-03-17

I think this album is great!!! Sure they're not entirely pleased about being lesbian women in the world today, but it sounds like the world hasn't exactly given them a lot of reason to be. And I really don't think that's the point either. I got this album because B and A have talent, a fresh sound to emphasize it, and a sense of humor. The message of their music IS love and tolerance....even their most agressive songs (aka Secret Candy) preaches that. I would advise people to go sample them on Ani D's website before making a decision about them, but don't just give up on them because of one unkind review.

1 out of 5 stars dont waste your money!.......2004-03-15

I just saw these two in concert. they looked interesting, so i thought, hey, i'll go see them...little did i know that they are a couple of insecure, talentless women who wish they had something that men do.....the whole show was about how angry thay are to be lesbian women....get over it! i'm sure glad this is to be their last tour together....
