Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars *TO BE SOMEBODY* IS AWESOME. BELLVUE ROCKS!!.......2003-07-19

Jesse Malin is finally getting the recognition he deserves as a songwriter and musician. When I listen to D Generation and Bellvue I wonder why it has taken so long.

The lyrics are excellent and the guitars and drums are blazing. Jesse has a distinctive voice but he blurs the lines between acoustic ballads and power anthems. "Brooklyn" and "Solitaire" are unveiled on record here. They reappear on his new 'solo' album *The Fine Art of Self Destruction* and have garnered him critical acclaim.

"Brooklyn" will also be the next single from this skyrocketing release - a solo effort - that includes an all star cast: Bellvue bassist Johnny Pisano, drummer Paul Garisto, guitar heroes Richard Fortus and (songwriting phenomenon) Ryan Adams who also makes his debut as a producer with *The Fine Art of Self Destruction.*

*To Be Somebody* may have gone overlooked by critics and fans but one can hope it will be reissued and (re)discovered now that Jesse has finally gotten the entire music world's attention. It should have been a highly praised prelude to what he would achieve but it will forever live as proof that he's always written great songs and rocked with unprecedented sincerity.

There was an original version before the one listed above (at the time of this posting) which had a cover song of "Heartbreaker" by the Rolling Stones. They had to pull that song but put on one or two more to make up for it. However, their version of "Heartbreaker" is totally awesome. The original version included "Downliner" as the final track.

*To Be Somebody* also features "Basement Home," a song that Jesse wrote a while before it was recorded here and which he performs on tour since. It is probably going to be on the next album. This version features Ryan Adams singing backup vocals.

*To Be Somebody* is a collector's item - most people just haven't realized it yet.
