Customer Reviews:
More than just a re-release.......2003-11-26
A lot of the reviews here quite rightfully praise the re-release of the Catholic Girls 1982 album. But there are 8 newer tracks as well that are even more impressive! "Don't Stop" has "HIT" written all over it. Insistent, pulsing bass intro, great chorus which builds in intensity each successive time (and stays with you for days), dynamite power chord after the guitar solo, and the most yearning vocal yet from Gail Peterson. And, although it may not be their target audience, a proper 12-inch remix would even make this track workable in some dance clubs! "Back to Russia" is great also, starting at full-throttle with a mercurial, nearly-2-minute intro that features a dynamite synth-dominated crescendo, followed by some well-timed guitar-riffs. And again, that's just the intro! Up next is "Don't Lose Me Now" which smokes like a runaway train. Aw heck...ALL these tracks are impeccably produced; both elaborate, cystalline and atmospheric, fulfilling the drama musically that is often found in the lyrics. If there's any other band out there that's offered material this versatile, tight, potent, and transcendent, I'd like to know who! And while these songs may not be indicative of the next direction for the Catholic Girls, they will make you want to be sure that you don't miss the ride.
They back!.......2002-12-26
I bought this album on vinyl in the 80s and played it a thousand times. I was so glad to see that it was out on CD. Now the band is back and making great music, but I still love this classic rock and roll.
Welcome back.......2002-10-15
I haven't heard this CD yet, but it seems that the first ten songs are from the old album in 1983, which I bought at a discount bin in 1985. I have enjoyed that album for years, and just recently came across it again, like a month ago. So I am now enjoying the ablum all over again. (Even the cover was from the old album, I think.)
This is excellent pick-me-up music that I can relate to (even though, being a guy, I am a subject of their music). I play it all the time driving to and from work.
The Catholic Girls - Still rockin' after all these years.......2002-03-27
I saw the Catholic Girls live (both nights!) at the Astor Park in Seattle in 1983. Their album has always been my favourite. The new release has all the classic songs and eight new tracks. I call this music "pop with an edge". The music is great, the vocal performance is great - but listen to the lyrics! The writing is the best part and it just gets better. They were ahead of their time in 1983 and they are still way out in front today!
