Hey, dumbfounded! Close your mouth--it's hanging open. Now dance. This band could beat you down like a punk, but they aren't going to--instead they'll get you riled up with a fervor that you haven't seen since 1967. I'll amend that: this album is from a time capsule, but it isn't as simple as listing a year or a place or even an influence. Just know that if you were in a gymnasium for a high-school dance, all would go awry if any one of these songs played--everyone sweaty and running their stockings and rolling their eyes toward heaven and shaking everything they got. Who are they like? Jon Spencer if he'd take his tongue out of his damn cheek. The Monkees, but sneering, with broken bottlenecks clutched in hand. This is sound collage before cut-and-paste, and Cato have taken nothing but the best. Let this be the soundtrack to your summer, before some major beer company snaps them up for an ad campaign. --Laura Etling

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Must Buy!.......2003-11-29

I love Cato Salsa Experience. They have a fresh outlook on music. So, the circus is back in town is my favorite song on the whole album. Its so hyper and funny it just makes me laugh. If you are looking for a fantastic album, A Good Tip for a Good Time is the way to go!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best of last year.......2003-04-28

Sneaking under the radar of the new rush of garage rock/Euro imports, Cato Salsa is one of the most solid and exciting. More diverse than The Hives, less AC/DC headbanging than the Datsuns, less cutesy rock shuffle than The Libertines and The Strokes, The CSE literally recorded in their garage and yet created an full stereo sound that fills up your room. Starting off with a balls-out instrumental and never slowing down while diversifying their playing, this is one that needs to be had before June 1. It is summer music, in the tradition of Kula Shaker. On top of this, they put on a great live show without prostrating themselves.

4 out of 5 stars Underproduced rock 'n roll, as it should be.......2003-01-05

This CD is a breath of fresh air in these days of over-produced rock. The sound can somewhat be related to the older days of Lenny Kravitz with a little more of an edge. The CD starts out with a not so strong track but picks up in the second with "So, The Circus is Back In Town". The CD is good, if not a little repetative. I must admit many songs sound alike. The highlights are "So, The Circus Is Back In Town", "Deadbeat" and "Time To Freak Out".

4 out of 5 stars ....Can't...stop....the...foot-tapping!!!!!!!!!.......2002-11-26

After a few rotations in the ol' disc player and a live concert experience I can assure you that this album will rock your socks off. It is such a breath of fresh air to hear a band playing for smiles and leave the angst and self-deprecating lyrics to the million other bands that tout the "grrrr" of grunge days past.
Compared with other "throw-back" bands, CSE show some real power and creativity to give you what you heard decades ago but still sound fresh. Plus, they're from Norway! How cool is that?
