3 out of 5 stars Listenable, but not the best.......2002-10-27

"Barely Legal" is Pimpadelic's first record and was released before they could adequately blend hip-hop, metal, country, and southern rock. It was also before Dirty K replaced King E Capone on the mic. That said, there are a few decent tracks here, namely "Get a Grip" and "One Time Can't Hold Me Down". Eazy Jesus, the band's driving force and frontman, doesn't offer much in vocals; here, the work is done by Capone who, in my opinion, just isn't a strong MC.

The songs here are more reminiscent of punk-metal and the rap is less prominant. I'd suggest their follow-up records, "Statutory Rap" and "Southern Devils" (the indy label release--I'd strongly recommend this version over the Tommy Boy release) which are among the best of the rap-metal genre, although you'll have to do some searching to find copies of them. Dirty K is a better MC than Capone, plus Eazy Jesus takes on more vocal responsibilities. Outside of the core Pimpadelic fans, this album offers little more than the generic post-grunge wave of the mid-90s.

5 out of 5 stars Pimpadelic Rocks.......2000-11-02

Pimpadelic outdid themselves with this one! An amazing cd and must have for any rap/rock fan. Better than any other similar band out there.. including limp bizkit!

5 out of 5 stars DFW band rises to the top.......1999-09-13

This local Dallas band has been playing in all the clubs in the metroplex. They have since kicked King E. Copone out of the band who contributed to this album. This is a great cd for anyone who likes rap/rock. They have two newer cd's out called "Statutory Rap" and "Southern Devils." They also just landed a record deal with Tommy Boy Records. They will soon be showing up around the coutry so you can check a local Dallas band that is true the game.

5 out of 5 stars a great mix of rap and rock.......1999-08-24

these guys rock, their sound is unique and their lyrics are hilarious, "get a grip" is the best song but none are disappointing or lame, they are probably the best band in dallas\fort worth right now
