With their debut, the Aussie band Taxiride tear through the paper-doll chain of boy bands with something that's more earthy than glossy. Part campfire harmonizers and part street-corner quartet, Taxiride combine their versatile talents to create pop songs that fall pleasantly between Crosby, Stills & Nash and the Backstreet Boys. The opening track, "Can You Feel," begins with a synth-affected didgeridoo intro that rolls into a rollicking sing-along reminiscent of CSN's "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," borrowing the song's hearty acoustic guitar and even the "do-do-doos." The waltzy "Let's Spend the Night" nods to Billy Joel's "Piano Man," while "Let Me Die Young" is a lovely candlelit serenade. Lyrically, the band teeters on a plank hanging above a sea of schmaltz, but their magnetic instrumentation (sitar, mandolin, and effective touches of electronica) keep them balanced. Possessing both classic-rock roots and pop-star appeal, Imaginate is one of those rare recordings that parents and progeny can listen to together. --Beth Massa
Customer Reviews:
Amazing album.......2007-01-17
This is a nearly flawless album. I've had this CD for about 6 years, and it lives on shelves with thousands of other CDs. Yet somehow, this keeps making an appearance on my playlist. And even more unusual, when this goes in the player, not a single song gets skipped.
The song "Can You Feel" is an optimal song to jump start an album, and "Everywhere You Go" is the absolute definitive pop song. These guys have tremendous vocal ability which shines in their harmonizing.
I'm stunned that people are selling this for a penny. Seriously, reach behind the couch and find a penny, and buy this CD (even if you have to pay 260 times that in shipping). You certainly won't find better music for this price, and I'd argue you won't find better music for much higher prices. Give this a chance.
Great Album!.......2003-10-31
Here is an absolutely suberb album. These guys from down under have put together a wonderful collection of songs. Each song is well written both lyrically and musically. Each song puts forth a particular emotion or feeling that is easy to relate to. The vocals are another thing to praise. Al vocals are dare I say, beautiful. Harmonies and melodies blend wonderfully to produce a sound that rates with the best. The Beatles come to mind. Instrumentally, all is amazing. The instrumentation in every song immediately catches one's ear and keeps it.
No one song on this album is my favorite, because I believe every one to be absolutlely amazing. This album more than deserves the 5-stars I have given it.
Classic and Fresh.......2003-05-25
Taxiride is one of the finest pop rock bands Australia has ever produced. Imaginate is the debut album in 1999 and made sweet sensation anywhere but U.S. They made a number of international hits from this album such as "Everywhere You Go" (similarly styled as ELO's Calling America), Can You Feel(many pointed out that it is like Crosby Still and Nush), Get Set and Nothing In This World. This album is already rock classic applauded by lots of music lovers around the globe. It is like encountering with Beatles bombarded by lots of crisp pop tunes. Acoustic ballads such as 72 HR daze and Elton John like Counting Down the Days show their brilliant sense of songwriting. Rocketship and Ice Cream are Inxs like pop rocker showing their modern side. They are showing that they are a lot more distinctive than any of current pop stars now hitting the charts.
Recommended for wide range of pop rock fans who like the bands like BBMak, Goo Goo Dolls, Coldplay, and 70s and 80s pop rock masters.
the ultimate pop/rock cd.......2001-02-10
I heard this band on MTV in Target playing Get Set and I wanted to get the CD right away. I did. And I'm glad. This is stil my favorite CD I own. I would advice you to buy this CD as soon as posible. They wright their songs, play their instruments, and do a great job at it. They sound a lot difrent than NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys. I hate the both of them, and I still like this album. Great harmonies. They best songs on this album are 72 Hour Daze, Rocketship, IceCream, and Nothing in this World. There are now cuss words on this CD either. Buy this CD and you won't regret it!
