Covers Too?.......2004-04-12
I couldn't understand before I purchased this album, why he did covers(Being as talented as he is) until I lisened to the cd. Now I know. He simply wanted to do some of his favorites and what a job he did. With his deep throaty vocals, and fiery lead guitar riffs, he sheds new light on these already famous tunes.
I'm not much for a band with an already great repertoire doing covers but he does the songs justice. Listening to him sing with passion and fire to an already great list of songs, he adds a twist to them that you haven't heard before.
amazing.......2002-03-17
great collection of covers from the yardbirds shapes of things to jimi hednrix angel. i have the domestic copy but i got the import for the four songs that are only on thr import, jeffs version of freedom by hendrix is worth the price of this cd
Fantastic album...Clapton, watch out!.......2000-12-25
This album is, as the title implies, a 'cover' album. And Jeff and his band do an incredible job on it. Whether it be Jimi Hendrix, Lennon and McCartney, Eric Clapton or any of the other artists he covers here, each and every song is brilliant. I think Clapton has some competition here! Jeff Healey is a fantasic guitarist, and to know that he is blind as well, makes him all the more amazing. On "Communication Breakdown" John Popper of Blues Traveller lends his harmonica playing skills, and on "Angel" Amanda Marshall is one of the backing singers. If you are a fan of blues/rock this album is highly recommended.
Come on Jeff, Covers?.......2000-09-07
Jeff Healey is a phenomenally talented and gifted guitarist who deserves attention beyond the borders of his Canadian homeland. With that understanding, it is somewhat puzzling to me that he would go into the studio to record 16 covers, 4 of which, "Freedom" (Jimi Hendrix), "I Got A Line" (Randy California), "Run Through The Jungle" (J.C. Fogerty) and "Badge" (Eric Clapton) appear only on the version released overseas. Moreover, how does "Stuck In The Middle With You" make it on a blues/rock CD?
Outside of Jeff's spectacular playing, there is nothing new hear whatsoever. I deduct 2 stars for the lack of original material and recommend the 1992 release 'Feel This" as an alternative.
