Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Decolonize your mind..........2001-04-11

Aztlan Underground's more poetic endeavor, "Decolonize," isn't as raw as their other album, "Sub-Verses," but this album does deserve some serious attention. The first thing you will notice when you buy this CD is the very symbolic cover. It depicts three Chicano males on horseback slaying white pigs. It is possibly sybolic of Aztlan Underground battling white supremacist ideologies, but is open to interpretation.

The music itself is slightly different than their other album, but they do keep their tradition of opening with indigenous instruments and using deep lyrics. Again in defence of the earth and the sun, Aztlan Underground tries to open more eyes. My favorite tracks are Sacred Circle and the faster paced interlude, both which in my opinion housed some of their best lyrics, flowing with intense emotion and energy. Some of the tracks have a slower, more poetic feeling.

One problem I had with the album was poor production on the last tracks. The track list has 9 tracks, but the CD only has 8 tracks on it. The eighth track however seems to contain the 9th track and another, leaving nearly 3 tracks on one. Only a small nusance, and it does not hinder the general listening experience.
