5 out of 5 stars The great band you haven't heard!.......2005-07-29

If you miss the days of real rock bands who were comprised of guitar, bass, drums and a ton of conviction, then you owe it to yourself to hear the Brandos. Comprised equally of members from NY and the Pacific Northwest, they were signed to an American label in the late 80s & they were eventually given the old screw
job by the record company. The band decided to head for Europe where they built a devoted audience and a fine catalog of albums on SPV in Germany (funny how Europeans appreciate American roots rock more than Americans do). Sadly, this means they have been absent from the airwaves stateside and I'd bet most hip, rock radio program directors don't even know who they are. David Kincaid is the driving force behind the band but all four members share equally in their success. The first obvious influence is John Fogerty and how can you go wrong there? Kincaid's Irish roots show through on many tracks and his fascination with the Civil War has only added to their singular identity. 'Honor Among Thieves' is their best LP start to finish and the greatest hits package, 'Contribution' is also a great introduction. Except for 'Gunfire at Midnight,' which suffers from poor audio quality, you can't go wrong with any Brandos release. Also, David Kincaid has released 2 albums of Civil War songs of which "The Irish Volunteer" is best. David actually searched museums & libraries for songs & fragments of
songs from the Civil War era, mostly focused on the experience of the Irish soldier in this conflict. This is a must-have if you call yourself a Civil War aficionado.

5 out of 5 stars No Frills, No Filler.......2003-10-15

It's a shame bands like the Brandos fall into obsurity when sh*t
like 98 degrees get's all the hype and popularity; these guys were ahead of their time (any band that can cover a CCR tune and make it their own deserves airplay and critical accolades!);
at 14.98 this cd is a bargain, you won't be disappointed...

5 out of 5 stars One of Best Groups of All Time.......2000-01-21

First heard Gettysburg back in 1987. Managed to find the album on vinyl in 1988. Thought then and still think now that it is one of the top 5 albums ever recorded. Can only help but think that the Brandos were 10 years ahead of their time. If they came out in the late 90's during the Modern Rock resurgence, imagine how far they could have gone.

4 out of 5 stars Straight -up R&R........1999-06-30

Not much filler, straight-up rock. No "effects", just some strong face-first music hovering around the 2-3 minute mark per song. Listen and enjoy!
