Album Description
Skimming is the successful culmination of a three year struggle. After a difficult label experience, Mike turned his back on the biz and embarked on the classic American journey of rediscovery - he hit the road. Touring incessantly (and alone) for two years, he rediscovered what he was: a songwriter, a wry social observer, and above all, an entertainer. He wrote the eleven songs that make up this album, built a grassroots fan base, and used his touring proceeds to make this record. Simultaneously paying tribute to and defying the singer/songwriter model, Mike Errico is the 21st century troubadour. <P>Enhanced CD includes photos from the road (all taken by Mike), a studio diary, 4 bonus tracks and a rotating bonus MP3.
Customer Reviews:
smart, passionate record.......2004-02-26
I've been listening to this record for a couple of months now, and it continues to grow on me. The pop songs get deeper on repeated listens, and my personal faves -- Grace and Underwater -- continue to dazzle. You can hear some of Errico's influences -- good influences, like Zeppelin, DiFranco, Buckley, even Stevie Wonder -- but the songwriting and, especially, the lyrics, are original throughout (I disagree with the 'Grace' reviewer, who in any case doesn't seem to have listened to more than one song on the record). Highly recommended for any fan of song-driven rock-n-roll.
Are you kidding me???.......2004-02-19
I actually give this cd 0 stars. Errico's song Grace is terrible! An obvious attempt to sound like Jeff Buckley. He even takes the song name from the title of one of Jeff's cds. How about some originality?? There is only one Jeff Buckley!
A new direction for Mike Errico.......2003-11-30
The new CD takes off in a new direction. Instead of the folk instrumentation of his previous work, we find a full rock band. Much of the energy of Mike's recent live CD is present in the studio product. If you've followed Mike Errico you will be pleased, if you haven't you will be in for a treat.
oh my god..........2003-09-25
Knowing Errico's previous work will only barely prepare you for what you will get with this new album. Yes, he's still all you remember, but finally he has the band and recording to match his ample talent. Great songs, great sounds, great voice. 5 stars for sure.
Excellent disc!.......2003-09-24
This disc rocks! This artist continues to mature. There isn't a weak track. From the title track of "Skimming" to "Strawberry Song" - this is Mike's strongest yet. The full band hand-picked for this cd is perfect. Neal Evans of Soulive adds a great mix with the keys.
