Customer Reviews:
Some of the best Grind around.......2005-05-28
That's right, and they're not exactly your normal run of the mill grind band, nuh-uh. This guys raised the bar on how grind could be considered intelligent music while making a couple people deaf in the process. Great musical chops all around, especially drummer Dave Witte(Human Remains,Burnt by the sun,East west blast test, and a few others) who brings the blast like no other, adding in plenty of complex rhythm changes and creative drum fills. And then there's Jon Chang, a man foaming at the mouth with spittle as he screams, shouts, growls, yells out his refreshingly intelligent lyrics.
Discordance Axis were one of the premier grind bands in their day and remain so to this very day, as well as well, forever I think. Essential listening for fans of Grindcore, the violent and spastic, and original and challenging music.
An Instant Classic.......2005-03-01
I took a chance and bought this album without hearing anything from it. Sometimes that can be disastrous. In this case, it was magic. Discordance Axis are amazing. The speedness of their play and the tones they can create are outstanding. I would highly recommend this album to anyone interested in the tone of distrted guitar and screaming vocals. These guys are awesome.
nearly the apex of grindcore.......2004-10-14
In and out of print since 1997, Jouhou is a reissue of the second Discordance Axis album of the same name, plus a plethora of bonus tracks, including a live performance, and detailed liner notes.
Jouhou was the work of a grindcore band that stepped outside of the stereotypes of the genre. The songs weren't particularly gory; if anything, the lyrics are unusually intelligent for the genre. Vocalist Jon Chang could not only sound like a pack of wolves tearing a man apart, but even sound like the man himself being consumed. Rob Marton's guitar packed enough of a punch that the bassist was neither needed nor missed. Dave Witte, formerly of Human Remains and now of Burnt by the Sun, took the standard blast-beat model and raised the stakes, adding in complex and jarring (but never pointless) rhythm switching.
