Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Title Says It All.......2006-08-17

Though they're all very good to great (except "Mad Flavor" which recycles a few older songs for some reason), "Joyride" is my favorite Lida Husik CD. Lyrically strange (which I love), the melodies on this album are terrific and I just adore her kinda husky voice. I can't think of an artist to compare Lida with-she's that unique. Dreamy, warm and wonderful. Check out "Green Blue Fire" if you enjoy this CD-it's Lida gone electronica.

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite CD of the Last 5 Years.......1999-02-09

Have you ever had a CD that was so brilliant that you didn't play it very often for fear of getting used to it? This CD, and Lida's other magnum opus (Fly Stereophonic) are like that. There is an aesthetic on both of these albums that make you think of Heaven. Although she is almost totally unknown, her music, at least for this listener, comes as almost as big a splash (speaking in terms of pure ear-candy pop), compared to what came before it as the Beatles first records did. There is not a single dud song on the entire CD, and one of the things I like most about it is that in terms of tonality it is pure warmness and sweetness with none of the harshness that is often mixed in with even some of the most beautiful passages of music from the 90s (Sonic Youth and Nirvana, two of my previous all time favorites, fall into that harshness and sweetness category). This is an album (also Fly Sterephonic) that always get my heart racing when I play them. Just one play-through has me humming the tunes for days afterwards. Also, the guitar-work on this album is just so GREAT (it's more a question of Lida's aesthetic taste and stylings than raw technique), that it inspired me to take up the guitar again after a hiatus of many years. Many of Lida's lyrics if examined closely tend toward the strange and occasionally nutty, but being 34 years old now, I don't try to form my worldview or theology from my favorite music, so it's all right. For me it just adds to the appeal of this very original artist. Enough said. Joe Bob says check Lida out! Also, if you like Lida, make sure you check out Mazzy Star, which is as good, but coming from a totally different part of the emotional spectrum.
