Los comienzos de un genio.......2002-11-13
Este fantástico cd nos presenta un Cat Stevens que no todo el mundo tiene la fortuna de conocer; a saber: el anterior a Teaser and the firecat y Tea for the tillerman, los álbumes que lo consagraron como el más popular cantautor del momento. Por lo que a mí se refiere, y aún teniendo en cuenta la genialidad de éstas obras y las que les siguieron, no puedo dejar de sentir una especial predilección por el menos conocido Cat Stevens de los 'swinging sixties'. En esta época, nuestro protagonista se afanaba por transformar la imagen de ídolo pop en que las exigencias de la industria discográfica habían acabado por convertirlo, por la del creador independiente que él soñaba ser y que, apenas un par de años más tarde, todo el mundo conocería y adoraría. A pesar de ello, todos y cada uno de los temas que salieron de su aún adolescente pluma a lo largo de esta breve etapa de su carrera, son de una categoría muy superior a lo normal. Desde el magnífico The first cut is the deepest (luego tan versioneado), pasando por el más popular Matthew and son, o experimentos musicalmente arriesgados del tipo de A bad night, Kitty o I'm gonna get me a gun, nos muestran a un autor increíblemente original, fresco y en ocasiones agresivo, que desafía con juvenil descaro todas las constricciones a su talento que el mercado pretendía imponerle. Con este disco tendrás casi todo lo que editó en los 60; pero si quieres completarlo, no dejes de adquirir New Masters, también disponible en esta tienda. PARA FANS DE LA MÚSICA INTEMPORAL.

Anyone who knew the early 70's Cat Stevens will get a shock with these early cuts. Highly commercialized as a "pop star", this is where Stevens eventually evolves from commercial to free spirit style writing. You'll appreciate every track, no matter how goofy they appear today.
Fantastic!.......2000-01-05
This albumn is a great one. Although some of the songs have wierd subjects( I love my Dog, for example) they are still high quality and will be enjoyed. However, I recommend that to truely appreciate this albumn, you must be a Cat Stevens fan to begin with. If not, get one of his more mature albumns, like Teaser & The Firecat or Tea For Tillerman. Those will be a better introduction to Cat Stevens. Warning! Don't listen to people who compare him to Tom Jones. They have no clue what they are talking about.
