4 out of 5 stars Found Out About This Through Gosling First!.......2007-02-01

Although these same members would become Gosling a few years later, Loudermilk was the first (albeit heavier) incarnation of the band. You can hear some similarities, but it's been hard for me to go back to this after hearing the Gosling classic first.

5 out of 5 stars As near to perfect as any other recent masterpieces.......2006-02-10

This is one of those indescribable recordings that demands attention from your entire self. It's pure sonic rock in it's sound, but the album goes up and down so fast you have to stop every now and then to take a deep breath and compose yourself. The opening track alone will attempt to blow you away, loud and pounding from the get-go, and it only slows down long enough for the band to throw in some saxophone and clarinet solos (97 Ways to Kill a Superhero) and piano balladry (Attached at the Mouth). The stretch of the last four songs is the strongest *ending* to an album I've heard in the longest time, beginning with the snarky "Rock 'n roll and the Teenage Desperation" and closing out the album with the beautifully restrained and hushed "Attached at the Mouth." Apparenty, some label interferance caused the band to adopt a new name (damn those major labels) but I hear that their new self titled EP "Gosling" is every bit as life-afirming as this, thier second release. (Their first record went unreleased, also due to label problems).

If you can find this CD anywhere these days, then you must throw your whole body into buying and listening to it. Scathing guitars and the bitchenist vocals ever have never sounded this breathtaking.

5 out of 5 stars Through seasons and emotions.......2004-12-11

Loudermilk is with Radiohead, Sigur Rós, Godspeed and few others, one of the best groups created in the last ten years.

"Red Record" is the record of the seasons, of the passing time, of the fading memories and crashing tears. It's deep, melodious and strong. This album is the best punck/rock(well, if you can find them a style) of the century...I promise, you cannot regret even forget this album. They do no just play guitar and sing on it, they play and sing their emotions, and with real mastering of their art.

5 out of 5 stars the best unknown band ever.......2004-11-18

i picked this cd up in november of 2002 at the mall of america in minneapolis, and since then, rarely has anything i've listened to impressed me as much.

the first track, estrogen oxygen aches in the teeth again, frickin' kicked my ass. it just explodes from the speakers with such force that i couldn't help but love it. the rest of the cd varies from semi-pop, to a piano ballad entitled "97 ways to kill a superhero", to the hypnotic beat of one of the best songs i have ever heard, "the twisting". the last song on the cd is one of the most beautiful things i have ever heard. i don't see how these guys aren't super famous. they are one of the most talented bands around and totally deserve everything they get. but, the other thing i really like about them is the fact that they aren't [...]. i hate bands that just sell out for money. but this band truly puts all their feelings and effort into their music to create deep and heartfelt musical experience.

so if you want something fresh, pick this cd up. you can find it for pretty much nothing nowadays, but good luck finding their first cd, "man with gun kills three", i got that off the internet for more money than i would like to talk about. but it was worth it, as is this masterpiece. and if you are already a big fan and want more, they are no longer called Loudermilk. after a label scuffle, they changed their name to Gosling, and have released a self-title e.p., and it is glorious.
