Customer Reviews:
Excellent!.......2006-10-29
I was a bit iffy on Hedley because I thought they might just be another generic Simple Plan or Sum 41. But one day I was at the record store and came across their self titled album for like $10, so I figured I'd buy it just because I was a big fan of "Gunnin'" and "Trip". After listening to the entire album a few times, I can safely say that it is definitely a good start for Hedley.
This band sort of sells itself on attitude. But it doesn't feel put on or manufactured. I think these guys set out to make a good pop rock album in their own style, and I think that shows in the quality of the music. The first song, "Villain", is easily one of the best on the album, I was actually surprised at how good it was. Jacob Hoggard(the singer) appeared on Canadian Idol, and easily Jacob is the most talented singer I've seen on that show(the show is mostly terrible). Hoggard is one of the only Canadian Idol finalists to actually showcase real singing talent. He carries with him this genuine confidence that really makes him likeable. All other instrumentation ranges from good to exceptional, especially the drumming in "Villain". The one issue I have with the instrumentation is that they completely changed "Gunnin'" for the music video, which is where I first heard it, and it was amazing. The album mix sounds a bit less inspired, sedated almost. Although the newly re-released version of the album has the video remix.
Most of the songs are either very good or excellent, but to give you my top 5 out of the 11 tracks.
1. "Saturday"
2. "Villain"
3. "Gunnin"
4. "321"
5. "Trip"
Hedley shows a lot of promise, and I hope this one is selling well so we'll see more growth from these guys in future releases. Until then, this disc will definitely have a lot of rotation in my itunes library.
Upon listening further, I actually think this album is 5 stars, absolutely fantastic, especially for this genre.
If you don't like it, get over it and don't listen! .......2006-07-12
As Chris's (the drummer) sister, I of course think you should buy this CD. I know how much work went into this album over the last couple of years. For those of you who don't think they've earned any of the praise that they are receiving, I urge you to turn off your radio. Or if you would like to open your mind to the fact that not all music is going to be the same, you might find that these guys are ridiculously talented. I dare you to listen to my brothers amazing drums in "Villain" and tell me that he doesn't deserve success! All the boys in the band have dedicated their lives to music since they were very young, if you think you can do better, please do! Maybe one day you'll find yourself on Canadian Idol too and you'll understand how much work it takes to not only get there, but to continue on and succeed afterwards! Good Luck! And I wish everyone as much success as Hedley because anyone who works as hard as they do deserves it!
Great CD!.......2006-07-07
This is my all time favorite band because of this cd, on my own, 321, villain, and street fight are the best songs. I didn't think I would like this cd because of some of the bad reviews but it really is great.
CANADIANS KICK ASS.......2006-05-25
this album totally rocks. im so excited for hedley to release their next album but anyways. i got this album a while back and i havent stopped listening to it since. i dont think i have gone a week without listening to it. every song rocks.
villain is my fav. it is a great song to start the album off. i like how heldey creates contrast throughout their album. a wide variety of songs, like from 321 to gunnin.
check out the self titled album and you will be groovin to it in no time! catchy tunes, good lyrics, jacobs sexy voice, dave and tom kicking ass on guitar and chris rockin it on the drums. what more can i say.
IT AWESOme!
p.s. these guys really rock in concert!
check em out
I didn't know Simple Plan changed their name........2006-05-08
Ya, when I first heard this, I thought it was SIMPLE PLAN. I mean come on! They are just a SP clone. Simple Plan, who also suck, have obviously changed their name.
HEDLEY is one of those "Wah-wah nobody understands me I just wanna cry all day" bands. I HATE IT! That is not how emo music should be. Face it, THESE GUYS ARE NOT PUNK. their pop. In my world, It's illegal to call these guys punk. So whatever.
