Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Another surprise from the Constellation label........2001-01-10

As with all my purchases from the Constellation label, this is another great cd. Although there are members of godspeed you black emperor! involved, it really has it's own sound. Aidan's drum playing on this album is very good. It mixes dub, hip-hop, punk, rock, etc... Here is a description of the songs.

a history of guerrilla warfare - to me, very "can" sounding with the ever popular voice loops. i think they are even scratched on this song.

metro mile end - very tribal sounding with a super kickin' beat. you'll enjoy this song a lot.

homemade maggot beer - short and to the point. anarchy.

we support iran in their bid to win the 1998 world cup - starts with an atmospheric dub sound with echoes of ambient noises. pretty slow pace for this album.

two years on welfare - great bass work. while being very minimalist, this song has a nice beat and sampled voices playing in the deep background. letting you know that someone from godspeed! is involved. suddenly, it picks up and becomes very intense and beautiful while maintaining the same bass line throughout.

this is our (borrowed) equipment - very hollow hip-hop beat opener. sounds like it's being played on the other side of the room. this song maintains it's minimalism throughout. the sound effects (fading in and out) sorta sound like alec empire's song called "22:24"

wool fever - very fluid and repetitive in the beginning. not my favorite song on the album. still good, though.

a medley of late night buffet commercials - this is straight up industrial dub music. very nice touch to the album. great bass that will vibrate the funny bone.

winterlude - another short song. could have been left off in my opinion. i'll still the album five stars.

the black horns of h2t - you have to hear this song on the headphones. there's no other way to really dig this song. listen to how you can hear everything in the room. really cool conclusion to a grand album.

Pick this album up. You'll really like it. I has a feel that is always good to come back to. While it probably won't be your favorite album, you'll be glad you have it in your collection.
