Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A rather offbeat collection of early sixties hit.......2002-10-12

The price on these "45s On CD" albums is certainly right. Then it just becomes a question of whether or not you can find enough songs you are missing from your music library to make it worth the trouble. If you are going through the volumes in numerical order this is the best one yet with a nice trio of wacky songs with "Li'l Red Riding Hood," "Winchester Cathedral" and "Wild Thing" (Funny; I had never seen the middle one on a hit collection and this makes two in one week). The Righteous Brothers offer up one of their big hits and you can rarely go wrong when Dusty Springfield sings a song. Over half the songs on this collection are decent, which makes it above average even if it is only ten tracks.

3 out of 5 stars Fine as far as it goes........2000-03-18

Let's face it, unless you burn your own CD's, these compilations will never fit like a custom made suit. However, they are great for finding songs that just are not out there anywhere else (how many albums did The Walker Brothers record? How many made it onto disc?). "45's on CD" is a good way to locate otherwise obscure cuts.

This type of recording is why we have needed Amazon.com for so long. It is so much easier than searching endlessly through cut-out bins at the local record store, particularly when you are looking for a specific cut.

"Lightning Strikes" and, "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" were great songs, and I guess while neither Christie or the Brothers were technically one hit wonders, these were their best, and can be hard to find. Although the Righteous Brothers and Dusty Sringfield have formidable collections of work, it is nice to see them included here with two solid hits, (even though neither was their respective biggest sellers).

You have to take the obscure with the great and near great, though. Life without ever hearing "Little Red Riding Hood" or the abysmal "Winchester Cathedral" would be just fine by me. Nonetheless, I rated this just three stars not for the poorer selections, but because almost twice as much music could fit on one of these tiny little discs.
