Customer Reviews:
WOW!!!!.......2007-04-04
Okay. So maybe you are like me and have heard plenty of New Wave in your time. What need could you POSSIBLY have for a CD from some little-known Canadian New Wave band? Well, get this CD and find out for yourself. Or if you can't get it, get used vinyl and make a CD. Quite simply, I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by this album! Yes, the general 'rough around the edges' sound of this production suggests that it was low budget. But it actually works out quite will. More importantly, the songwriting is certainly on a par with the best on this planet! All songs are melodic, intelligent, and well thought out. Yet they are also fun and entertaining. Why this band never made it while others did is completely beyond me. But I guess that's the way the music business works. Regardless, buy this album in whatever form you can find, and find out what you have been missing for the last 25 years. If you like New Wave, you will LOVE this album.
Still Great after all these years.......2006-11-01
I first heard the song "Nova Heart" on a Canadian FM station in the early 80's and knew immediately I wanted the album. I still have the vinyl pressing, but I'm sorry I missed the CD release. Apparently, it is now unavailable again, in that format. "Arias & Symphonies" is one of the best LP's of the era.
80's Memories.......2005-08-10
A friend gave me this LP back in 1983, I believe. The spoons have a great sound unlike many other groups. I hadn't heard it since 1990, so finding it on amazon was great. Highly recommended if you like the early 80's New Wave.
New Romantic Gem.......2002-10-20
A gem of 'New Romantic' early 80s music: melodic, suave, clever songs. Vintage acoustic electronics (i.e. electronic but played rather than programmed). If you are interested in the fact that a Toronto band was pushing the envelope in 1982 or you like songs from this band you heard on a compilation CD (or MTV circa 1984), then this is a very reasonable value.
The last star was withheld because some of the songs tend to sound alike, and you need to appreciate this genre in order to fully enjoy this album.
SUPERNova-Heart!.......2000-12-12
This album is a melodic and heroic masterpiece. The staggering genius of Gordon Deppe (composer) and the orgasmocosmically appergiating keyboard sorcery of Rob Preuss combine with a synergy of aching beauty. Of all the albums I bought in the 80's (MUCHOs) this stands alone in that you will not hear A SINGLE SONG that is less than magnetic.
