Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Jacob Bunton Owns All.......2005-06-28

I can't help but take a review seconds to respond to the previous reviewer who claims this band has little talent. Very few of us will ever have the oppertunity to meet someone as talented as Jacob Bunton. He has a vibrant, full, distinctive voice; he's a spellbinding guitarist; he's a clever, creative songwriter; and he takes complete command of the stage while performing. Matt Finn is a very solid drummer [he actually took from one of my former teachers] with a strong voice and a knack for incredible stick stunts. Chris Simmons is just kinda there as a replacement for Michael Swann, who is the other guitarist who played on this album. He is also very creative and plays with unabashed passion. Carl Ray Hopper is a very active, involved bass player that provides the album with it's true polyphony and texture.

Now that being said, understand that despite all this the album is mediocre. Half of is incredible, and the other half one could easily do away with without suffering much. The single, "Someday", "Another Day [On Top of the World]', "Far Away", "Inside", "Fear of Falling", and "Lucid" all make this album worth getting. The rest and very average to subpar rock songs. However, the entire disc is skillfully instrumentated and beautifully harmonized vocally [often in true 4-part voice leading fashion], rendering the entire album completely listenable.

Needless to say, the live Mars Electric experience is unspeakably beyond this disc.

Goodday,
Jon Bernreuter

1 out of 5 stars WHY DOES EVERYONE RATE SO HIGH!? This is lame!.......2005-05-17

I have spent weeks looking up hundreds of small bands and auditioning them. Sad to say this is one of those bands with little talent but nothing that seperates them from many dozens of other groups that sound just the same. They aren't ones I want to add to my collection.
During these days of auditioning, I have noticed one thing. 98% of bands have been ranked somewhere between a 4.5 and 5. This is monotonous. I can't understand why every band rates so high with so little talent and nothing different. It makes reviews garbage basically. People please get off the 5 star buttons and reserve it for your favorites only! I can't even get a clue by reading reveiws so I have to write my own. Hopefully this will help someone out there wondering why this group rates so high but sounds so lame. For you people left still handing out 2's and 3's for run of the mill music my hats off to you and carry on the good work!

5 out of 5 stars wow - so... wow..........2003-06-28

Mars Electric - debut cd 'beautiful something' is trully a piece of work. If you like kicking back and listening to music that is out of this world buy this soon, it is not that sappy 'pop' [stuff] that is on the radio every day. Treat yourself to something new and listen to the sounds of Mars Electric. You will WISH they come to play in your town...very surprising more people haven't heard of this. Beautiful, so good you'll want to buy a guitar and learn to play it, something people will want to hear....
Honestly, 5 out of 5!!!

5 out of 5 stars Arena Rock meets Alternative.......2002-06-28

Great songwriting, vocals, harmonies and guitars - what more do you want in an album? I can't understand why these guys don't get airplay - overall it's a far better album than Nickelback, Fuel and those other bands on the radio and I'd rank it just a notch below Matchbox's first CD. Sure there are two or three throwaway songs at the end, but the first nine songs are excellent.
