Album Description
Starline Theorie are a San Diego based collective of musicians. The core group of bass, drums, and two guitars are joined on stage and record by a revolving cast of collaborators. 'Vega' is the group's first release as well as the first for Azra Records. There's a consistent thread of grooves and melodies throughout the album, beginning with the Middle Eastern influenced "Sahara" and "Tic Toc", which are followed by the more Latin flavored "Urban Lush". The ambient "Copenhagen"- an instrumental break featuring trumpet- gives way to a trio of heavy dub/ambient influenced pieces ("Goth Hop", "Sex Fiends" and "Alva") featuring soaring female vocals over the music. The instrumental "Murmur" takes its time, slowly increasing in volume as well as intensity. "Phoenix" picks up where "Alva" left off, another piece with a reggae-ish bass and textual swirling guitars. "Placed You" is a loop driven piece that crescendos at points before launching into a dark driving coda. The last piece, "Twilight" is an instrumental featuring the core quartet of Starline Theorie. Throughout the album are sections of cellos, flutes, djembe, frame drum, sitar and trumpet which add to the overall layered mix.Customer Reviews:
