These kids rock! Their "Lord Did You Hear Harrison?" is brilliant--the Stones meet the TV show Zoom on helium! Donning medical garb, symbolizing the healing essence of music, Danielson Famile are madcap Muppet-ish gospel folkies jammin' for Jesus and the hope for elevated consciousness everywhere. From one moment to the next, their sound veers from campfire sing-along to Christian vaudeville to the silliest, most-fun-ever, strummy, bouncy acoustic rock. A family affair, Danielson is big brother Daniel Smith, 26 (who birthed the band as his senior thesis at Rutgers), and younger sibs, who range in age from 14 to 23. Rounding out the combo is buddy Chris Palladino, whose organ adds psychedelic girth to the acoustic guitar and drums, which are fortified by the sisters' flute and xylophone and the blend of voices. Smith is the Daniel Johnston meets Muppet Animal meets Beck-inspired genius-savant who makes Danielson jive, jingle, and spark. --Paige La Grone

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Novelty Band.......2002-10-29

this band is a Novelty Band, nothing I can listen to any old day, more or less when I need a laugh, most of it is just weird.....and usually makes me laugh, or smile...... it usually wears thin after ten minutes, however the weird thing is, I have almost all of their albums. go figure, the best thing to do with a Danielson album is to listen to it in spurts.

5 out of 5 stars Not Your Typical Christian Music.......2001-06-08

If you are not a typical Christian--well, if you're not a typical human being--this could be a good cd for you. Where most Christian music seems to be lacking in originality, these guys have an excellent message and an ecellent way of telling it. Very unique! This is the only Christian music I would listen to if I wasn't a Christian.. and that's saying something.

5 out of 5 stars Their best ?.......2001-04-15

I think I like this album the most, but all their album are good. Catchy good songs that took a wrong turn and ended up better songs because of it.

4 out of 5 stars Famile Values.......2001-02-14

While they have their dedicated fans, the Danielson Famile have yet to really break through and get the attention their infectious recordings deserve. They're stuck straddling the fence between audiences, perceived as too quirky for Christian music followers and too Christian for quirky music followers. The Danielson sound is difficult to describe, but imagine a riverside hootenanny between the Pixies, Will Oldham, and the Partridge Family. Lead singer Daniel's high-pitched vocals are usually one of the first things to startle a new listener, and his unique lyrics and refreshingly revisionist take on the religious song help set them apart from the glut of mediocre acts that populate the contemporary Christian music scene. This is their third album, and the first of two discs that make up the "Tri-Danielson" opus. 1997's "Tell Another Joke..." is still their finest hour, but this CD has some wonderful gems like "Runnin' To Brother," "Pottymouth," and "Lord Did You Hear Harrison?" There's also a fun cover of Ken Nordine's "Flesh," and the spirited "Btwn. The Lines," which deals with the power of the middle finger. For those who are intrigued by music that falls through the categorical cracks, the Danielson Famile await your consideration. Whether you end up tappin' your feet or scratchin' your head, it'll get you going.
