5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2003-12-07

When Allan releases an album he takes no prisoners. The opening 2 minute song City Lights is worth the price of the CD alone. Hold on tight! Man, those killer chord progressions! Allan is still the greatest fusion guitarist in my opinion. He has a style and tone like no other and all his compositions are unparalleled as far as depth and chord progressions. Its as though the tone of his guitar is like a human voice. Not to mention he is one the greatest soloist ever. Incredible bass work from Jimmy Johnson.

5 out of 5 stars Fusion Classic.......2000-01-05

To the unfamiliar, Holdsworth's music can be challenging. He rarely uses traditional harmonic concepts, familiar scales or predictable rhythms. Depending on one's expectations and preferences, his characteristic tone swells, and unique chord voicings will either delight or nauseate the uninitiated. Regardless of what one thinks of the music, just about any Holdsworth album represents a phenomenal human achievement as virtuosic performance. This explains the subculture of devoted and drop-jawed muscians who scratch their heads and wonder how Holdsworth and bandmates play so fast, so cleanly, stretch so far, and bury the pulse notes while remaining in time. As a guitarist, Holdsworth is peerless, having a fluid tone and technique both on the electric guitar and his digital interface, the Synthaxe.

Secrets is an excellent Holdsworth album, especially for the curious as it features both guitar and Synthaxe, some peculiar vocal work, and a range of songs from burning to evocative.
