4 out of 5 stars A great find..........2006-11-02

Every few weeks I go and rummage in the dusty bins of record shops looking for music that I would not otherwise have purchased. I fill in my back catalogue, but then pick up a bunch of almost random CDs. There were slim pickin's one time about a year and a half ago, but I spied the cover of "Soularium" and decided that it looked better (pun intended) than most of the other stuff in the CD bins. Her makeup and hair on the front cover reminded me of a friend of mine from Ottawa, so that helped a bit too :). I had never heard of Sister Soleil, or Stella, but home it came. The first track, "Feel My Love" was... not what I expected with its almost "Indian" vibe. But once "Red" kicked in, I knew I'd made a good purchase. The album was wonderful to listen to, but when "Hit Me" was done, I knew I had a fabulous album on my hands and have wondered since why it never went further than it did commercially.

It has most certainly become one of my favourite albums. There's such a diversity of music and mood that it's hard to get bored of (as is evidenced by the number of times I have listened to it!). A few songs are a bit more pop than I would tend to listen to, but they are balanced by the rest of the album so it doesn't grate the way it could. The song "Little Girl" is a fantastic song, but I sometimes have to remove it from my playlist because it's subject matter is too intense for a casual listen (which is a compliment... it takes a lot to elicit that sort of reaction from me). I'm also massively entertained by the "over the top" shmaltzy lounge song "Liar". It's followed up by the kickin' "Strength" to keep a good mix.

Needless to say, this is a great eclectic album with a little something for everyone. I would recommend it to anyone enjoys music that's not like everything else out there (but without being too far away to be alienating).

4 out of 5 stars Feel my love.......2004-02-17

Anyone remember that annoying "Kiss Kiss" by Stella Soleil from a couple of years ago? "Kiss Kiss" was one of those songs that exemplifies what an 'earworm' is. It is an annoyingly catchy song that just sticks in your head and won't go away for months on end. Thankfully that song didn't do anything for Stella's career. It was too poppy for my tastes. I greatly preferred her work with her old band Sister Soleil. "Soularium" was a far superior cd than "Dirty Little Secret". "Soularium" was a fusion of techno, industrial, and rock music. The techno/industrial beats vaguely reminded me of Collide and Garbage. Stella Soleil isn't your typical vocalist. She has that same high-pitched, delicate singing style that I hear in Sarah Brightman. It isn't obvious but I personally can hear a bit of Sarah in Stella's voice. Most of the songs are really good. I particularly enjoy "Feel My Love", "Butterfly", and "Chair" but "AOL" is my least favorite song on the cd. I found the chorus to be annoying. It is too bad that this band didn't last very long. They did possess a great amount of potential.

5 out of 5 stars Not a CD, an experience.......2004-02-08

First heard SS on a local radio hour in Chicago, since then I have become forever addicted. This is my favorite CD of all time, and I can venture to say it always will be. The melodic combination of eclectic and invigorating beats is perfectly accented by the angelic voice of Stella. Buy this CD, you will not be dissapointed, no matter what your taste in mucis is.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST ALBUM I HAVE IN MY COLLECTION.......2003-11-23

I cannot believe this was not a major hit. All I can say is that this album is AMAZING!! If you love strong and edgy female rock/pop, than this album is above the rest. If you are thinking about buying it, don't think anymore. Believe me GET IT NOW!! You will not be disappointed.
